One Disney Dreamlight Valley Quest Sets A Concerning Precedent
I agree with most of the comments below. This article feels biased and one-sided. What stuck out to me was the statement, "a significant amount of money" for the DLC. Each one has been $30. I'm constantly reminded by my husband when I'm frustrated by some players complaints that this game is geared towards non-typical gamers, so to have more patience. This game contains so much content for the little they charge.
No it's not longer free to play as promised, but they give us a full and lengthy roadmap every year of content and updates. Our guideline is 1 hour of quality game okay per dollar spent. I'm not saying this game is worth $1,000, but I've spent over 1,000 hours on the game. So the probably $175 I've spent on the game overall = 100% worth it.
$70 - Ultimate Edition in Beta
$15 - moonstones I've purchased
$10 - moonstones my husband purchased for our son to buy something in the shop
$30 - A Rift in Time
$50 - Storybook Vale Magical Edition
Even if I never bought the expansions, after my initial $70 I've had 2 years of major character introductions, Star Paths, and general game updates (scramblecoin and floating islands were all free). You can earn moonstones with your daily chests and Dreamsnaps, you just have to do your dailies.
All of this compared to Red Dead or Hogwarts Legacy, you pay upwards of $60/$70 and you still get a fantastic game, but it's the whole game.
To everyone else's point, if they give those that purchased the DLCs a little treat, I think that's great and literally makes sense. I will happily keep paying for the work the developers and designers have put into it.
