The Wheel of Time Megafan Pays For A Billboard In Times Square To Campaign For The Show After Amazon Canceled It
Good for them. I'd be loud like that too if I had the means. I can't get over the story being cut off right when it begins (if you've read the books, you know the best is yet to come). The cancellation of The Wheel of Time is infuriating and short-sighted. I am reminded of so many series that improved in quality and became long-legged pop cultural phenomenons only after having 3 seasons to grow - The X Files and Game of Thrones to name a few. And other series that were canceled after 3 seasons, only to go on to prove what a dumb move that was and become absolute powerhouses with more than 50 years of staying power - Star Trek. The Wheel of Time deserves a full run to complete the story, and sit in the rotation of epic fantasy rewatches and family nights for decades to come alongside Lord of the Rings and its spinoffs.
The Wheel Of Time's Cancellation Continues To Prove That Amazon Doesn't Know What To Do With Its IP
Seasons 1-2 absolutely had their struggles - like a pandemic shutting down production for months, a lead actor abruptly leaving necessitating a complete re-write of an entire season, but to say they weren't enjoyable is subjective and completely ignores the new fans the series attracted, which should be just as much a priority (if not more) than the og book fans as it is ultimately a larger audience. Just look at GoT. (And then stop looking before you get to that train wreck of an ending). There are legitimate critiques to be made about the series for sure (I have several), many of which can be boiled down to Amazon thinking 8 episodes per season is enough (it's not), but as a book reader, I can't take the complaints seriously of anyone who moans that actor x isn't pretty enough, that Rand isn't darthy enough (hello, it's the beginning of the series) or that the show skipping repetitive plots from the books like characters walking slowly from town A to B to C to D to E to F is a mistake. Amazon's biggest failing imo is whack marketing strategy. Balls to the wall for underwhelming series like RoP, and crickets for WoT. Amazon needs to think long term and market effectively. They're just becoming another Netflix where nothing is worth watching because a conclusion to anything is far less than a guarantee - it's a rarity.
'Save The Wheel of Time' Trends on Social Media As Thousands Sign Petition
Thanks for covering the fan efforts. Read the books, love the show. The Wheel of Time deserves to finish the story (and if you know anything about the big events we didn't get to yet, man. It's crushing knowing what we're missing out on). I know it's unlikely but I'm begging some steamer to pick this up. If anything, more people should be speaking up about the crappy practices of the modern day streaming model that demand instant worldwide hits from day one, without allowing the story the chance to mature. We're never going to get a well-paced, carefully planned story with a satisfying progression without the time to build. So many of the most highly regarded classics like Star Trek and X-Files didn't find their footing until several seasons in. Even Game of Thrones didn't really pop off until season 3.
