PlayStation Could Be 'Pulling Back' from Releasing Its Big Games on PC
This has little to do with the steam machine, and more to do with Xbox going 3rd party. Sony will remain the only traditional console maker. Yes, MS said they will release new xbox hardware but you are given very little reason to buy it, if any. At this point, why even bother. Sony has cornored that console market. You might say, what about Nintendo? Well they are terrible with 3rd party and this is key.
This means that for those that buy a PS, Sony wants to keep those sales for games that aren't just first party. A big reason why steam is so successful, is because of the 30% cut they get from every game sold on their platform. The default platform on PC. If Sony was to put their games on PC day one along with their console, that means gamers might start to migrate to pc with their libraries.
Why would Sony want that? They don't. So, while you can argue, that you can sell more units as your audiance is bigger. In the long run, you are invalidating your console, and your overall sales on your store. Sony doesn't have competition on their platform. This is a huge advantage that you lose when you do not have exclusives.
I'm sure they have done the numbers and I expect that by keeping gamers on their store, they will generate more money then whatever they might get by selling on PC day one. CoD console sales was 82% on the PS.
