I actually like this Gear 5. I mean if you think about it Dr. Vegapunk even said that the Gum Gum fruit is not the real name given that fruit. Basically, it was a fruit that he never created. But back to the point, while Luffy was battling Kaido, the giant elephant revealed what kind of devil fruit he ate which was the God model Nika Nika fruit. He also stated that this fruit was meant for him to be carefree and make everyone laugh due to what abilities the fruit gave him. And you have remember, Luffy has always been goofy and get into problems that he thinks its a fun way to deal with when his crew thinks it's really stupid. Yeah, for the most part he gets serious with his battles but he's always carefree. I believe made the right choice to make his Gear 5 look ridiculously funny so we can see how the Nika Nika fruit works.
