Every "review bomb" is a metric that devs should pay attention to. It consists of people that will not be purchasing the game, and usually a group of at least 5-10 other individuals in that person's circle that won't be buying either.
Game devs opting to self insert and pander to a demographic that makes up a sliver of the game buying base in exchange for millions of dollars in revenue seems pretty simple.
"It's just a bunch of stupid chuds" is the common retort, but guess what? The people you hate buy video games, and a lot of them.
Imagine if Bioware made the game about devout Christians arguing about scripture instead of being non-binary? No one wants to see that in a fantasy setting.
Insert your political agenda into games at your own peril.
Sleep with who you want, marry who you want, and cut off whatever body parts you wish, but the rest of us aren't interested in your lifestyle and politics in video games and will vote with our wallets.
