My first unlock was a gun, everyone is different, so perks I'm really able to wait on... I don't like every gun on this game and I unlocked the gun I felt very comfortable advancing to the first prestige. I'm pretty sure certain unlocks will make it easier for sum or a vast majority but i don't mind grinding and just overall playing the game.
