In all seriousness though most if not all people have had childhood crushes, so how is it strange to want to replicate that experience in a game like the sims where people regularly advance the experience w realistic mods. As someone who's not interested in the mod, if you're going to ask why people want to add childhood crushes to the game you might as well ask why people play the sims at all as they're both equally pointless questions with the same answer 'because its fun'
