I've only watched the first few episodes, and I just assumed these two would get together. I briefly allowed myself to hope Deku would end up with with Bakugo when I saw the picture in this article, but I'm not upset by the news. That's what fanfiction is for, after all

I think they were trying to say the fact that she has ilithid powers at all disqualifies her from a "no ilithid power" run. I say that's up to each player to decide for themselves. It's like deciding if you're going to use the "no dupes" clause in a Pokémon nuzlock. Maybe recruiting Minthy is fine, and you just won't use the powers. Maybe you do allow catching Pokémon of the same species, or maybe you allow it only if the first Pokémon you caught of that species has already fainted. These rules are all self-imposed, so it's up to each player to decide what rules to apply and how to apply them.

If you don't mind, could you explain where the problem is? The article just says it's bad because reasons, but barely even waves a hand to say what those reasons could be. In fact, the article makes it clear that Gale and Tavla could easily serve different roles while still being spelllcasters.

A necromancer is very different from, say, an evoker. Having paladins with different oaths or clerics of different deities from different domains can be great for role-play, and not too shabby in combat either.
