Did you read the books? Maerlyn is not a central figure in these. He's mentioned a few times, and he was indeed powerful, but he was not part of the story; only his legend and some of his workings were. And that's how it should be portrayed in the adaptation. You're trying to ruin this just like they did with the Dark Tower movie, which totally deviated from the story and was absolutely horrendous.
