You are correct... He was like a pet to nobunaga and received retainer status because nobunaga liked mesding with his retractors. He was allowed to carry tools and weapons for nobunaga but in no means was allowed to carry a sword publicly as a weapon during that time. He somehow made it to around 3 to 4 years in his service and ran to nobunagas son when oda was killed. Once Oda son was killed they had Yasuke as a prisoner and stated "he is not Japanese and lower than a beast. So we cannot give him a Japanese death" he then was given back to the Jesuits where it was assumed he was sold back into slavery and never historically heard from again.
