Seriously, like every adventure map I've ever played has been much like this. And Mojang has been adding features and code to make mapmaking easier, so I'm increasingly excited about what the future holds via community-generated content. In fact I just finished making an adventure map with some friends and posted it on PMC, and am planning to make a solo map for the Winter Holidays. Very much a lot of what you said, where the environment is limited to a particular spooky look, monsters pop out without warning, your choices are restricted and your weapons are weak...
Well, I prefer games that give me a little more power than your standard "horror" game, but there are many mapmakers who don't lol
