I trust the mod teams more than I trust a 3rd party company, personally I'd much rather if they did remaster another game it be Daggerfall, Battlespire, or the Travels games, because there is a lot of lore packed into them that I think will be completely lost to time by ES6. Most people by now never even played Morrowind.
6 Things Oblivion Remastered Does Better Than Skyrim
The thing I love about the remaster is that it validates an argument I've had for a long time, that Skyrim was not a very well made RPG. Compared to prior titles, it is much more hollow, strips away more and more content and customization, and loses classic RPG elements in exchange for a more palatable sandbox to satisfy a broader audience.
It's essentially a giant sandbox, full of power fantasy and poor pacing where the player becomes the Uber Deus Ex of the world within 30 minutes of playtime. It's a very McDonalds approach to an RPG, sacrificing the beloved DND elements for a more "no player left behind" power system. That's why there are more mods for Skyrim than any other game, not only did they give a creator kit, but it was practically needed to make the experience worthwhile. A barren and empty landscape with very little unique interaction, and for a country embroiled in a civil war with dragons rising from the dead, it really has barely any dynamic interaction at all. Skyrim deviated from what made the Elder Scrolls loved, and to its credit it reached an audience that a more esoteric experience would never have cultivated, however the consequence was a drastic loss of quality.
The follow up of a generic, uninspired 3rd party MMO did nothing to satisfy any fears that BGS had abandoned its loyal customers in exchange for volume sales.
What I hope, is that the success of the remaster, which is essentially just the base game with a makeover, will remind BGS of the entire reason they reached this success, and that ES6 won't suffer the poor response of Starfield of Fallout 4, because they will have been reminded of the artistic expression and complexity that made their games loved.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. People expect continous support and updates for games now, and then balk at microtransactions. They don't realize that those ongoing updates are real life people working overtime to deliver while also trying to work on new projects. People don't understand how slim the profit margins typically are for video games, developers work 70-80 hours to make less than 6 figures, regularly.

Bethesda assets have always been great for modding and replayability, but the core story is about The Elder Scrolls, hence the title, so while Alternate Start is a great mod and great use of assets, the vanilla game should stick to it's foundation

That's literally the whole point of the stories since Arena. All the games, even Battlespire and the Travels games have been about prophecy and fate. That's why they're called "The Elder Scrolls" to begin with. It'd be like saying "Battlefield" should be about gunsmithing instead of war. While I do think Skyrim has leaned too heavily into "You are the chosen one and the most important person ever who can be the world's best assassin, mage, fighter, werewolf, and everything else" is a bit tired and too much of an ego inflater, the game should still be centered around prophecy, if not the player characters than someone else's such as in Arena, Daggerfall, and Oblivion.
