This feels like a Halo 4 situation where 343 pivoted from the Didact and killed him in a comic series. Only to bring him back in a novel a few years ago. I just feel like this sequel trilogy suffered the same as the Star Wars sequel trilogy where there wasn’t a cohesive story or plan for a story. The writers were going one direction only to pivot after fan backlash.
I wish 343 would have stuck to there guns with what seemed like the plan to have the Didact as the big bad for their trilogy. But due to fan feedback his arc was kinda finished in a comic book storyline. I say kinda because of the novel Epigraph that came out last year. I love the story to 4. I think the focus on Chief and Cortana’s relationship was brilliant and human. I also liked the story to 5 and didn’t have an issue with Cortana being bad. I think it followed well with the history of the Forerunners and their conflict with Mendicant Bias. Following that line could have had.a compelling story for Chief fighting against Cortana.
Not really. It’s easy to infer that Chief made it back to Earth after leaving the destruction of the Halo. The novel First Strike tells the story of how Chief made it back to Earth, but it’s not required reading to understand the story of Halo 3. Halo 3 literally starts after Halo 2. Chief arrives at Earth in the Forerunner ship. Halo 3 starts with him jumping from the ship.
