I personally worked on and with Team Kanohi in the early days of Masks of Power's production and I couldn't be more heartbroken. An incredible amount of talent, passion and time went into getting Masks of Power to where it was now. For that to die on the vine due to something as trivial as LEGO deciding to sit on a retired IP is just... Sad. One could almost say it's a similar scenario as Sony with the Bloodborne franchise.
I, for one, say that a difficulty slider in a Souls-like is a positive step as long as the original experience is still there for those who want it. Lies of P is an absolutely stunning game, in art and musical direction and a certain audience being robbed of experiencing that is such a waste. If they beat the game or find that a certain part is too easy, they're free to dial up the challenge. More inclusivity options are always a good thing.
I very much think calling it the Elden Ring of gothic FromSoft games to Bloodborne is a very good comparison. It's not trying to come in and fill Bloodborne's shoes so much as it is trying to walk up and stand proudly shoulder-to-shoulder with it. I love Bloodborne to my core, I really do, but forcing Duskbloods to just be Bloodborne 2 by a different name feels unfair to the work of devs, artists and musicians who put their soul into this new idea.
