See AllThe Crow Remake Didn't Work Because It Is No Longer The '90s
The 2024 remake was like someone watched the 1994 Crow on silent. They picked out some of the most obscure things to carry over and left the most important parts behind. The Crow (1994) was about justice in an unjust world. The audience felt the love and compassion for Draven and his fiance because they were good people, even caring for their neighbors child in her mother's absence. It was dark, Draven was taunting, and the Edgar Allen Poe references seamlessly fit in.
The 2024 Crow wasn't a love story you could buy into. It's just two addicts escaping rehab and going on a drug fueled bender. It wasn't about justice, it was about some dark deal with the devil. And this Draven wasn't taunting, wasn't witty, and didn't compel the viewer to empathize with him.
On top of that, the 1994 soundtrack fit perfectly with the film. The 2024 soundtrack was not even memorable.
