See AllGame Publisher Group Says Stop Killing Games Movement's Proposals Would 'Curtail Developer Choice'
One larger part of the issue is that not all games need to be live service or need you to login to a service or server in order to play. In the example used, Yu-Gi-Oh, that doesn't need to be live service at all. I'm pretty sure some of you remember Yu-Gi-Oh GBA games. The entire game was in a little cartridge and required no online connectivity to play at all. The only thing requiring a login does is that it tries to make sure you're not cheating by having your player data stored online in their servers, and then allow you to connect to a pvp/matchmaking server...but what about allowing players to play against the AI even if there's no online mode? Or allowing someone else to host the matchmaking servers if ever Konami or whoever owns the servers decides to shit them down? Imagine if you're playing an old GBA metroid, or pokemon, or megaman game and suddenly you can't even start them up because their company said "Ok guys we had a good run but we're pulling out. Bye." That's the part that needs to stop. Completely single player games shouldn't be tied to any online server, and I'm pretty sure games that have optional, keyword optional, online capabilities shouldn't either UNLESS you are trying to connect to the online multiplayer portion, but still retain full single-player functionality.
