You can also do the "Through A Nightmare, Darkly" quest while wearing the boots, and they will be forcefully removed from your inventory during the quest.
This has the benefit of retaining the +50 to your acrobatics, without wearing the boots. You also cannot wear the boots again, but at least you have the perk, AND you can now wear some other enchanted footwear.

As an RPG purest, I am much more interested in the lore and the immersion, rather than high-level and insanely unbalanced combat, where I die 20 times trying to defeat Fathis Aren.
For those that like that aspect, great. I'm just now one of them.
The new difficulty settings are irritating. Why change them? With an "infinite" slider, we could tweak the difficulty to our liking. With 5 crazy unbalanced settings it's not easy to find the right balance.
I try to play on expert, but the balance is way too far off in some cases. I'm guessing Kvatch at higher levels will be not fun for me.

Closing gates has always been easy if you just run through them. Level up speed and agility with acrobatics, and you're unstoppable.
I can see where the actual "battle for Kvatch could be a problem, as you have to actually battle, but closing the gate is a no brainier.
