I think you have something a tad wrong. Vegapunk didn't make ALL of the modern fruits, sometimes a regular fruit just grows into a devil fruit in the wild. Kinda like how chopper got his fruit.

Hopefully he's learned from his past mistakes of making so many characters and giving none of them story or meaning until last minute where it doesn't matter. And hopefully nobody gives him death threats like before. I'm hopeful.

Besides, I highly doubt that his armor can do the inertia manipulating bullshit Gear Shift could. I'm glad that he doesn't have Gear Shift anymore. All of the rest of his abilities are at least a tiny bit fair. But Gear Shift would have allowed him to bypass the infinite energy requirement for a massive particle to go at the speed of light. So thank goodness it's gone. Won't stop the power scalers from making shit up though.
