Hogwarts Legacy 2 May Have to Bite the Bullet the First Game Dodged
As someone who has played Star Wars: The Old Republic (an MMORPG that has a fairly comprehensive morality system) for the last decade, I'll be the first to say that I would LOVE for the next installment of Hogwarts Legacy to have a morality system as well.
However, there's a few things to consider.
1) However strong of a butterfly effect will the choices have? If something like, let's say demanding a reward, keeps you from taking reward based quests in the future due to your reputation? Does using an Unforgivable actually have any consequences?
2) Will you be able to see if a choice aligns with a specific morality path? With some dialog options, they seem a lot more innocent to pick than what your character actually says. (Choosing to tell Penny she shouldn't have lied to you in the shop quest has you telling her she should punish herself!) Which brings me to a minor pet peeve with the current game. There is no way to back out of a conversation or cut scene once it starts. If you weren't ready, tough luck, the only way out is forward and if you make any mistakes you better hope you saved before the interaction started. Being able to back out or restart a conversation would be majorly important with a morality system, as making an acciental choice could ruin the gameplay.
3) Will choosing good or bad options have an effect on gear/quest rewards? If I'm choosing the "good" options, I shouldn't find / get anything that choosing "bad" options will also give.
I think that if the devs were to implement a morality system, I would rather they take a lot of time to iron out these details rather than a half-baked morality system that's just barely different than what we got in the first game.
