See AllOne Bold Mortal Kombat Decision Could Be a Blessing and a Curse For The Next Game
A critical and commercial success? MK1 was the most hated MK game since MK vs DC back in 2008. It's sales are around 4 million while MK 11 sold 15 million and MK X sold 11 million. That's a huge drop. Then you've got the huge backlash over the story DLC and Kombat Pack characters along with the story itself and the cameo system. So it's fair to say that MK1 was lackluster and damaged the fan base. That leaves NetherRealm in a tough spot. Do they continue on with a story that most it the fan base hates and one that didn't draw in casual fans or do they reboot (AGAIN!) For the 2nd time in just 4 games. Yes, MK11 was the best selling MK game of all time and is pretty well loved by most fans, but it's clear that the Kronika story from that game was a huge mistake. A mistake that's going to be difficult to get out of and will likely divide fans even more so than they already are. I wouldn't want to be in Ed Boones shoes right now.
