It's called Role Playing, you can make any character interesting or boring, play it how you want and as long as you're enjoying it, it's entertaining!!!
Want to make a combat focused character? DO IT
Want to play a mother hen who heals & looks after the party? DO IT
Find a character you think that will be fun and play it! I've been a big dumb brute, a changeling priest who can't control his spells or form, a dad bard who looked after anyone who needed help, a rogue who thought he was always hidden in any shadow, all of them fun to play and all were part of a party who appreciated what they did for them!
