They did the same thing with the SNES Mario Kart. Nowhere on the planet could you buy the OG box Mario Kart brand new for $39.99 in 1992, or in the following years. It's MSRP was $59.99 and on sale it would dip into the low 50s but that was it. The Players' Choice Mario Kart did not come out until 1996 and that was the $39.99 version.
