Some PlayStation Plus subscribers claim they are going to cancel their subscription or simply not renew it. PlayStation Plus has changed dramatically over the years. At first, PS Plus was a way for gamers on PS3 and PSP to get free games every month, but with the PS4 generation, it became a requirement for online multiplayer. PS Plus later split into three tiers, with subscribers able to choose between Essential, Extra, and Premium.
PS Plus Essential is the base version of the service and comes with online multiplayer and monthly free games. Extra gives subscribers access to a large library of PS4 and PS5 games. And finally, Premium comes with everything that the previous tiers have to offer, plus retro games from the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP libraries. Unfortunately, recent developments seem to have soured some subscribers on PS Plus, especially the Extra and Premium tiers.
A Reddit post by karbirsingh84 highlighted how the month of May has traditionally been devastating for PS Plus Extra, with May 2025 being no exception to the rule. PS Plus Extra and Premium are losing 22 games on May 20, including some rather heavy hitters. Among the games leaving PS Plus in May 2025 are Batman: Arkham Knight and Grand Theft Auto 5, along with PlayStation-owned titles like Infamous: Second Son, Resistance: Fall of Man, and Resistance 2. The Reddit post has multiple comments from people who have declared that they are canceling their subscription or not renewing it because of these departures.
Some PS Plus Subscribers Aren't Happy About the May 2025 Updates
Some of the individuals unhappy about the impending PS Plus departures are PlayStation VR2 owners. Multiple virtual reality games are getting the boot on May 20, including The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners games and the well-reviewed Before Your Eyes. PlayStation VR2 hasn't been nearly as popular as Sony hoped, but being able to access some of the hardware's best games was definitely a great reason to sign up for PS Plus Extra for those that did spring for the virtual reality headset.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem as though the new PS Plus Extra and Premium games for May 2025 have done much to appease fans. May 20 will see the addition of nine new Extra games and only one Premium game, so more games are leaving the service this month than are being added. Fans have routinely expressed their disappointment with PS Plus Premium's lack of new games, and only getting one new title in May 2025 is not helping matters.
