When Sony released the PlayStation 5 console, it did so with a new benefit for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Any PlayStation Plus subscribers that manage to get their hands on Sony's next-generation console not only has access to the monthly free games, but they can also check out some of the most popular PS4 games ever released through the PS Plus Collection.
The PS Plus Collection on PS5 consists of 20 PlayStation 4 games that subscribers can claim and download anytime. Unlike the free PS Plus games given away monthly, these PS Plus Collection games are permanent and have remained available since the PS5 launch in November of 2020. However, it's been over a year since the PlayStation 5 launched and Sony hasn't made any changes to the PS Plus Collection lineup.
With it being over a year since the PS5 console launched, now is the time for Sony to shake up the PS Plus Collection a little by adding some new games. Sony made it clear that the PS Plus Collection may never get new games. However, adding some new titles could not only please PlayStation Plus subscribers, but could also help generate sales for some of the company's upcoming video game releases.

For example, Sony will be launching Horizon Forbidden West for PS4 and PS5 in February 2022, and yet Horizon Zero Dawn is missing from the PS Plus Collection lineup. While it's safe to say that many hardcore PlayStation gamers have likely already played through Horizon Zero Dawn, there may still be others that have never played Aloy's original adventure. Since they haven't played the original game, they may not be quite as tempted to pick up the sequel, so adding Horizon Zero Dawn to the PS Plus Collection could in turn create brand new fans of the franchise.
These new fans may then decide to check out Horizon Forbidden West when its release date rolls around on February 18, 2022. And the same logic can apply to another one of Sony's big upcoming PlayStation exclusive releases in 2022.
There are other high profile PlayStation games missing from the PS Plus Collection that seem like they would be good picks for the service. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection was given away for free through the PlayStation Play at Home initiative, so it seems like it would make sense to add it to the PS Plus Collection as an extra freebie for those that missed out. Not only that, but the Shadow of the Colossus remake is years-old at this point and would also make a great addition to the lineup.
There are many missing PlayStation exclusive games that would make solid additions to the PS Plus Collection lineup, but Sony has not given any indication that it plans on expanding it. For now, subscribers can continue looking forward to the free PS Plus games that are given away every month and making their way through the titles that are already available through the collection.
