Summary

  • 10 games are confirmed to exit PS Plus Extra in October 2024, including five Dragon Quest titles and LittleBigPlanet 3.
  • PS Plus Extra subscribers have a month's notice to play and finish these games, but more departures may be announced in the coming weeks.

Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation Plus Extra catalog will lose at least 10 games in October 2024. This list might be updated with more games at a later date, but for now, PS Plus Extra subscribers who were holding off on these 10 PS4 and PS5 titles now only have one month to play and finish them through the service.

The PS Plus Extra game library is rotated on the third Tuesday of every month. The departing PS Plus Extra games are usually announced a month in advance through the service's Last Chance to Play section, but Sony has recently adopted a habit of staggering this list rather than releasing it all at once. Case in point, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim was part of September 2024's PS Plus Extra departures, but Sony only confirmed that it would be exiting the service alongside three more games less than two weeks ago.

PS Plus Extra and Premium Game for September 2024 Is Gearing Up for a Big Reveal

A PS Plus Extra and Premium game that was removed has returned, possibly teasing the reveal of a highly anticipated title for its franchise.

All told, September 2024 saw a total of 16 games leave PS Plus Extra, but the situation thankfully looks better for October 2024, at least for now. The Last Chance to Play section on PS Plus Extra has been updated with 10 games, such as LittleBigPlanet 3, Gotham Knights, The Evil Within, Ultra Street Fighter IV, and Toukiden Kiwami. A bunch of Dragon Quest titles will also be given the boot, namely Dragon Quest XI S, Dragon Quest Builders, Dragon Quest Builders 2, Dragon Quest Heroes, and Dragon Quest Heroes 2.

Games Leaving PS Plus Extra in October 2024

  • Dragon Quest Builders
  • Dragon Quest Builders 2
  • Dragon Quest Heroes
  • Dragon Quest Heroes 2
  • Dragon Quest XI S
  • Gotham Knights
  • LittleBigPlanet 3
  • The Evil Within
  • Toukiden Kiwami
  • Ultra Street Fighter IV

The mass removal of the Dragon Quest titles mirrors the exodus of the Star Ocean series from PS Plus Extra in September 2024, possibly hinting at more Square Enix games leaving the service in the coming months. The Dragon Quest games are regarded as some of the best turn-based JRPGs ever made, but they do take a lot of time to finish, so interested PS Plus Extra subscribers should get to them as soon as possible. The departure of acclaimed survival horror game The Evil Within from PS Plus Extra is unfortunate as well, especially with spooky season right around the corner.

What many fans find most puzzling, though, is LittleBigPlanet 3 leaving PS Plus Extra in October 2024. The first-party platformer launched on PS3 and PS4 almost a decade ago, so it likely has little to no à la carte sales potential left by now. Moreover, the success of PlayStation's latest platformer, Astro Bot, could've led to a popularity boost for LittleBigPlanet 3 from PS Plus Extra subscribers looking for similar experiences. Conversely, LittleBigPlanet 3's servers were permanently shuttered earlier this year, which may have been the final nail in the coffin for a game that relies heavily on user-generated content.
