Sony has officially announced the PlayStation Plus Essential free games for August 2025. The upcoming batch of free PS Plus games includes a well-known survival title, an anime-based arena fighter, and one of the most critically-acclaimed soulslikes in recent years.
Each month, PlayStation Plus members receive a rotating set of three to four free games as part of their subscription perks. July 2025's PS Plus lineup included major additions like the Blizzard action RPG Diablo 4 and SNK fighting game The King of Fighters 15, as well as indie puzzle platformer Jusant. The Extra and Premium additions for July 2025 were similarly stacked, which led to a lot of interest in what PS Plus could bring in August. Now, Sony has shown its hand regarding next month's PS Plus Essential tier games.
Lightning Will Hopefully Strike Twice for PS Plus in August 2025
PlayStation Plus added one of the year's best games back in April, and here's hoping that it finds similar success with August 2025's day one release.
With the PS Plus 15th anniversary celebration slated to end on August 4, Sony has revealed a fresh batch of free games that will land the very next day. Starting August 5, PS Plus subscribers will be able to claim Lies of P, DayZ, and My Hero One's Justice 2. The undisputed highlight of August 2025's PS Plus free games is Lies of P, available on both PS5 and PS4. Launched in 2023, Lies of P is a soulslike action RPG that reimagines the tale of Pinocchio in a dark, twisted setting, with players journeying through the plague-ridden city of Krat. Developer NeoWiz even expanded Lies of P with the Overture DLC in June 2025.

The other two free games in the PS Plus August 2025 lineup are both PS4 titles. First comes hardcore multiplayer survival game DayZ, where up to 60 players fight to survive in a zombie-infested wasteland, and then My Hero One's Justice 2, a 3D arena fighter based on the My Hero Academia anime. In addition to the free games, subscribers will receive a special avatar set featuring characters from popular franchises like Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, God of War Ragnarok, and Twisted Metal to commemorate PS Plus' 15th anniversary.
Owing to the month-long anniversary celebration, July 2025 was a massive month for PS Plus. There were heavy hitters not only in last month's Essential lineup, but July 2025's PS Plus Extra and Premium additions also included notable games like Cyberpunk 2077, Banishers: Ghost of New Eden, New World: Aeternum, Planet Zoo, Risk of Rain 2, and more, including day-one release Abiotic Factor.
