PlayStation Plus members can play Saints Row, Black Desert: Traveler Edition, and Generation Zero at no extra cost. Saints Row is probably the most noteworthy title on this list, and it functions as a reboot of the franchise. Unfortunately, it received mixed reviews at launch, with fans criticizing various aspects of the game. While not every PS Plus game will resonate with the player base, Sony generally offers well-received titles in this category. However, September’s PS Plus lineup doesn’t have many redeeming qualities, as the remaining two games also didn’t receive good reviews. The PS4 version of Black Desert has a score of 61 on Metacritic, while Generation Zero is sitting at just 45. As a result, the full lineup received a ton of criticism from PS Plus subscribers, but players can now try out these games and form their own opinion.
The relatively poor selection of games wasn’t the most controversial PS Plus announcement that day, as Sony has confirmed that it will raise prices across all three tiers. 12 months of PS Plus Essential will cost 79.99 USD from September 6, with Extra and Premium categories priced at 134.99 USD and 159.99 USD respectively. Sony didn’t give a specific reason for this price increase, aside from stating that this change will enable it to continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits to PS Plus.
This news received a ton of backlash online, as users complained about the high percentage increase in the asking price. As a result, some players have decided to cancel their PlayStation Plus memberships, as a number of fans state that they will simply play single-player titles instead of paying for online multiplayer.
