PlayStation Plus is heading into the final months of 2025 with some great momentum. After what was thought to be a generally more lackluster start to the year, the summer season then saw PlayStation Plus celebrate its 15th anniversary. During this time, the service was stocked with several popular and fan-favorite titles, including Lies of P, Diablo 4, and Stardew Valley.

At the most recent State of Play in September, Sony announced the first batch of upcoming titles for October, with Cocoon, Goat Simulator 3, and Alan Wake 2 hitting the Essential tier of the service for subscribers to claim on October 7. And though the last game is a bona fide horror hit, two other notable genre titles have consistently been part of fan discussions, and their continued absence on PS Plus remains a bit of a sticking point.

Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 Remake Have Been Frequently Requested for PS Plus

Following some lesser-received action-heavy entries and spin-offs, the shifts back in direction and tone that 2017's Resident Evil 7 brought righted the ship, and it set RE on an upward path that it has been on ever since. Resident Evil Village then released in 2021 and was widely hailed as the continuation of the resurgence of the modern era for the series, becoming as big, if not a bigger, hit than RE7.

The remakes of the second and third mainline REs that were released between the modern two then set the stage for the extremely popular RE4 Remake. The highly acclaimed remake hit the market in March 2023 and became the fastest-selling Resident Evil title to date, moving more than 10 million units since.

In the wake of the above, across various social media platforms like Reddit and Sony's own official PlayStation blog, Resident Evil 4 Remake and Village have cropped up in comments, PS Plus wish lists, and predictions at a noticeably frequent rate. The prevailing thought is that, given their status and with a reasonable length of time having passed since their release, they should've already been added by now. But despite this strong player sentiment, neither has yet come to the service. Alan Wake 2 is a perfectly appropriate and welcome title for PS Plus to include this spooky season, but Resident Evil is still the de facto king of survival horror. Thus, it does seem quite strange at this point that the two latest and highly popular titles in the series haven't been picked for PS Plus, especially with Resident Evil Requiem's release date falling early next year.

Predicting When Resident Evil 4 Remake or Resident Evil Village Could Finally Come to PS Plus

Sony and Capcom have often shared a close partnership in the past. Combined with the fact that Resident Evil 7 was previously on PlayStation Plus, and the original PS1 versions of RE2 and RE3 were added for Premium tier subscribers this August, it only adds to the general sense of confusion and frustration that RE4 Remake and Village have not made their way onto it. And although some potential behind-the-scenes reasons haven't been disclosed regarding why this may be the case, it hasn't stopped fans from pointing out their continued absence from the service.

In light of all this, though, there remains hope that either or both will eventually be added to PS Plus, perhaps sooner rather than later. Perhaps the intent is to add these games closer to RE Requiem's release date. While nothing has been confirmed as of now, it would be timely for Village to hit PS Plus in January ahead of Requiem, if out of season. And with RE4 Remake's third anniversary not far behind Requiem's release, this would also make for a good window for it to be added. Time will tell, but it seems like these are good options for the near future if they are being considered for PS Plus' library to satisfy the demand for them.
