Summary

  • PS Plus Extra and Premium are losing 7 games in March 2024.
  • Civilization 6, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Outer Wilds are among the newly confirmed outgoings.
  • The next PS Plus catalog rotation is taking place on March 19.

Civilization 6, Outer Wilds, and five other games will be leaving the Extra and Premium tiers of PlayStation Plus in March, Sony has revealed. This month-long notice gives PlayStation Plus subscribers enough time to beat some, though likely not all, of the outgoing titles.

PS Plus Extra and Premium libraries have been changing on a monthly basis ever since Sony split its subscription offering into three tiers in June 2022. Catalog rotations happen on the third Tuesday of every month, with the latest such change occurring just hours ago, when PS Plus Extra and Premium added 13 new games.

As per usual, the rotation also saw Sony update the "Last chance to play" section of the PS Plus page. The move revealed that Civilization 6, Code Vein, Ghostwire: Tokyo, Haven, NEO: The World Ends With You, Outer Wilds, and Tchia will all be leaving PS Plus Extra and Premium in March. That's seven titles in total, but still fewer than the nine games that left PS Plus in January.

The vast majority of the newly confirmed outgoings have enjoyed fairly long stints as part of Sony's subscription content catalog, having been added to PS Plus back in March 2023. A full year has historically been the longest any single title ever spent on PS Plus. The newest arrival on the service from these outgoings is Civilization 6, which became available to Sony's subscribers in September 2023.

The third Tuesday of the upcoming month falls on March 19, making that the date when the aforementioned titles are expected to leave PS Plus. That leaves Sony's subscribers with enough time to beat some of them, but those hoping to do that with all seven will have to treat their subscription backlogs as a full-time job; even going by the most conservative estimates, rushing through all of the newly revealed outgoing games would take in the ballpark of 120 hours.

That's without accounting for the fact that Civilization 6 is all about replaying different scenarios, so even though a single campaign can be fairly short, completing it can hardly be considered beating the game. Seeing everything that the remaining six titles leaving PS Plus soon have to offer is also likely impossible to do in a single month. On the other hand, PS Plus Extra and Premium members who intend to keep their subscriptions in the foreseeable future in the long term should bear in mind that it's not unusual for games to return to Sony's service, so it's possible they'll get other chances to play these newly confirmed outgoings.
