Wouldn’t it be nice to have one console with the ability to play any game on it legally? Unfortunately, there are a lot of games that have been lost to time. The PS2 has one of the greatest console libraries of all time, and there are so many games that cannot be played or found easily.
That’s why their value increases with time, which players can keep track of on PriceCharting. This list will go through some of the best games that are worth a lot of money in certain conditions, but not necessarily the most expensive games of all time. Physical conditions are the only legal way to play these games on any console, PS2 or otherwise. If found in the wild for cheap by unaware sellers, PS2 fans should scoop these up.

The 17 Rarest PS2 Games (& How Much They're Worth)
The most expensive PS2 games for collectors to buy can change over time, and here are the rarest games in 2025.
Resident Evil: Dead Aim (Gun Bundle)
A Unique Undead Experience
Resident Evil: Dead Aim
Display card community and brand rating widget Display card open critics widget Display card main info widget- Released
- June 17, 2003
- ESRB
- m // Blood and Gore, Violence
- Genre(s)
- Shooter
- Loose: $47.95
- Complete In Box: $61.92
- New: $478.40
Resident Evil: Dead Aim is a spinoff taking place primarily on a boat that was exclusive to the PS2. Unlike other light gun games, players could move around freely, and the perspective would go into first-person while aiming. The game was playable with a normal controller, and players can pick up a copy for around $34.35, $46.68, or $229.99. However, to experience the game as it was meant to be played, players should get this bundle with the gun controller, which is much harder to find.
Silent Hill 4: The Room
You're Locked In Here With Me
Silent Hill 4: The Room
- Released
- September 7, 2004
- ESRB
- m
- Genre(s)
- Survival Horror
- Loose: $99.99
- Complete In Box: $159.99
- New: $345.05
Silent Hill 4: The Room was not part of the Silent Hill HD Collection, which was released for the HD generation, like PS3, that combined the second and third games. The only way to play Silent Hill 4: The Room is through hard copies. Alternatively, if players have a PS3 in Japan, they could have bought it before the PSN refresh.
In the West, though, physical copies are all players can get, and finding a copy is not easy, although it’s less expensive than PS2 copies of Silent Hill 2 and 3. Silent Hill 4: The Room is an underrated entry in the Silent Hill series, and hopefully, one day it can get re-released.
Samurai Western
Where Cowboys And Samurai Meet
- Platform(s)
- PlayStation 2
- Loose: $118.05
- Complete In Box: $225.00
- New: $349.99
Samurai Western is not a 10/10 experience, but its bizarre story, setting, and unique gameplay make it a fun curio for the PS2 generation. It stars a samurai out of his element, looking for action in the Old West.
The Rarest Games Consoles (& How Much They're Worth)
Certain consoles have become very expensive collector's items. Here are some of the rarest video game consoles and how much they'll set you back.
Players will clash bullets with swords in stylish action. The game won’t compete with Devil May Cry, but that doesn’t matter. It was a late release for the PS2 in 2005, and Atlus didn’t make a lot of copies when they published it outside of Japan, which is why it’s rare (and thus worth a lot of money) today.
Wild Arms 5 (10th Anniversary Edition)

- T For Teen // Fantasy Violence, Mild Language, Suggestive Themes, Use of Alcohol and Tobacco

- PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3
- Genre(s)
- RPG
- Loose: $149.99
- Complete In Box: $160.00
- New: $228.84
Wild Arms 5 is the last mainline game in the Western-infused RPG series. It's another example of a late release for the PS2, having come out in 2007. The normal version of the game will cost players about $62.19, $110.00, or $181.19 to buy, but the special edition is rarer. It came with an art book, and it’s how the first copies were released, meaning it didn’t cost more than a lot of special editions today. Like Silent Hill 4: The Room, Japanese players could have bought a digital copy on PS3, but the only Wild Arms games that are easily accessible on modern consoles today are the first three games.
Def Jam: Fight For NY
Rap Battle
Def Jam: Fight For NY
- Released
- August 20, 2004
- ESRB
- m
- Genre(s)
- Fighting, Wrestling
- Loose: $154.16
- Complete In Box: $160.93
- New: $800.00
Def Jam: Fight for NY is the second game in the series, starring a bunch of rappers duking it out in wrestling matches. Even the Greatest Hits version of Def Jam: Fight for NY is rare, selling for $152.12, $169.99, or $424.99. It’s one of the most requested series from this generation that players want to see return with a port, remaster, or sequel. The reason why it’s rare and kind of hard to re-release now is likely because of all the licensed tracks, which is why a lot of licensed games go away.
.hack//Quarantine
The End Of A Quadrilogy
.hack//QUARANTINE
Display card community and brand rating widget Display card open critics widget Display card main info widget- Released
- April 10, 2003
- ESRB
- T for Teen // Mature Sexual Themes, Mild Language, Violence
- Genre(s)
- Action RPG
- Loose: $174.9
- Complete In Box: $248.90
- New: $372.12
.hack//Quarantine is the fourth and final episode of the action RPG series framed as a fake MMO. Since the series was not exactly selling like hot cakes, .hack//Quarantine might not have had as many copies made. To play the entire quadrilogy requires a heavy investment.
22 Rarest PS4 Games (& How Much They're Worth)
From niche indie titles, to limited collector's editions, some rare PS4 games can go for thousands of dollars.
.hack//Infection, the start of the quadrilogy, goes for $13.49, $23.71, or $116.67. .hack//Mutation sells for about $30.96, $38.10, or $117.50. Finally, .hack//Outbreak runs for $33.61, $50.00, or $77.48. Unfortunately for fans, CyberConnect2 only released the sequel trilogy, .hack//G.U., in HD formats, leaving this original series behind.
Haunting Ground
Good Boy
Haunting Ground
- Released
- May 10, 2005
- ESRB
- m
- Genre(s)
- Survival Horror
- Loose: $270.39
- Complete In Box: $384.86
- New: $731.25
Capcom made a lot of great horror games for the PS2, and one of the rarest ones is Haunting Ground. Players control Fiona, a young girl who is aided by a dog, Hewie, who has to escape an old castle while creeps chase her. It’s another example that existed on Japanese PSN, but that doesn’t help Capcom fans in the West. For horror fans, this is one of the most sought-after games on the PS2, as even finding a loose copy will be almost as expensive as buying a regular Switch console.
Xenosaga Episode 3: Also Sprach Zarathustra (Lenticular Cover)
A Shiny End To An Underrated Trilogy
Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra
- Released
- July 6, 2006
- ESRB
- T
- Genre(s)
- RPG
- Loose: $464.12
- Complete In Box: $474.99
- New: $799.00
Xenosaga Episode 3: Also sprach Zarathustra received two different versions, with this lenticular cover being the most sought after. It’s the final episode in the Xenosaga trilogy, and even the non-special version goes for $152.49, $205.00, or $249.26.
It’s pretty necessary to get the rest of the series too: Xenosaga Episode 1: Der Wille zur Macht and Xenosaga Episode 2: Jenseits von Gut und Bose. Those games aren’t as expensive, but they aren’t readily available either. It’s one of the rarest RPGs on the console now, with fans begging Bandai Namco to help re-release the trilogy in modern formats.
