Summary
- PlayStation 5 fans may have to buy additional NVMe SSD hard drives for more space.
- Some PS5 games have massive file sizes, with Horizon Forbidden West requiring close to 100 GB of space due to its amazing graphics.
- Games like WWE 2K23 and Assassin's Creed Valhalla take up a significant amount of space on PS5, likely due to enhanced graphics and extensive content.
Within the early days of the PlayStation 5, there has been a lot of talk about the variety of features it has and what it lacks. Notably, one of the biggest complaints coming out of the gate from PlayStation fans is the lack of viable storage options provided to players thus far.
The system has about 825 gigabytes available on its SSD. Of course, this doesn't mean that players will have all 825 GB to use.
All The Problems The PS5 & Xbox Series X Have Encountered (So Far)
The PS5 & Xbox Series X have their fair share of issues. These are the biggest problems issues the consoles have had so far.
Players will only have a maximum of 667 GB available to them and must buy a compatible NVMe SSD hard drive if they want more space. This isn't possible for everyone, so it's important to look at the biggest file sizes for PS5 games to see what players should prioritize.
Updated on March 25, 2025, by Gerardo Molina: For several years now, there's been quite a debate around whether Xbox or PlayStation have better exclusives in modern gaming. And while most players can't seem to agree on a single answer, one thing's for sure—the PlayStation 5 is a great console that offers a ton of options for those who own it. As graphics evolve and development engines get better, more space is required to take players on wonderful journeys that will captivate them. Although this is mostly a good thing, it also means that larger storage devices are required to have more than a few titles ready to go at a time.
24 God Of War Ragnarök
84 GB
God of War Ragnarok
- Released
- November 9, 2022
God of War Ragnarök is one of the best games released in the last five years, as it not only keeps building on the famous God of War franchise but also serves as an entertaining sequel to the 2018 title. Throughout the story, players will get to keep learning about Kratos's backstory and see Atreus become a skilled young man, much more mature than the version players got to meet in the 2018 prequel. Ragnarök not only features new and improved armor sets and attack patterns but also has a completely new story that answers many questions that were left unanswered in the 2018 title.
This title maintains a lot of Kratos’ brutality and still feels like a God of War title while also incorporating new and interesting elements revolving around Norse mythology and the deities involved in it. Many of the bosses Kratos and Atreus will encounter along the way make Baldur from the 2018 game look like a pushover, challenging players’ skills and reflexes as they explore the land. God of War Ragnarök also features the return of Helios, a character from the original God of War trilogy, albeit not in the most story-centered way. While there are many other games on the list that surpass God of War Ragnarök’s storage space requirements, anything over 80 GBs is still considerable.
23 Horizon Forbidden West
99.3 GB
Horizon Forbidden West
- Released
- February 18, 2022
- Developer(s)
- Guerrilla Games
- Platform(s)
- PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5
Horizon Forbidden West is the much-awaited sequel to Aloy's first adventure. Just like its predecessor, it came out around the worst time possible when another genre-defining game was making its debut.
Still, Forbidden West is a fun game to get into, even if the title itself isn't all that innovative. It's clear to see why this game requires close to 100 GB of free space on the PS5, with its amazing graphics and high-quality textures needing this much space to shine on the hardware.
22 Assassin's Creed Shadows
102.61 GB
Assassin's Creed Shadows
- Released
- March 20, 2025
The Assassin's Creed franchise has been around for a very long time, and throughout the years, many wonderful titles have been released that still fill players with nostalgia regardless of the outdated game mechanics and graphics. The Ezio Trilogy is probably the most popular example of this, as many players still enjoy it to this day and consider Assassin’s Creed 2 to be the greatest installment in the franchise. Assassin’s Creed Shadows takes on a much different approach, as it does have an interesting story, but is based a lot more on the more modern blueprint of the franchise, involving more intricate NPC interactions and retaining the RPG elements that have been part of this series since Assassin’s Creed Origins.
Following the story of Naoe and Yasuke, players will get to explore the depths of feudal Japan as they take on several enemies, either using Stealth or entering any area with their katanas unsheathed. While the game has only been out for a few days at the time of updating this article, it has already managed to capture a lot of fans and deliver an entertaining experience for most of them. Granted, the game has also been criticized by some for being too similar to Ghost of Tsushima, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. With a formidable 102.61 GB of storage space required, Assassin's Creed Shadows is not the largest game on this list, but it will still demand that players delete a few games to install it.
21 Black Myth: Wukong

Ever since it was first announced, Black Myth: Wukong took the gaming universe by storm, getting thousands of players excited about its release. When it finally hit the shelves, it didn't disappoint in terms of narrative, game mechanics and overall graphics.
Giving players a Soulslike experience that, while challenging, isn’t as frustrating as that of the Dark Souls franchise, Black Myth: Wukong has managed to position itself as one of the best games released during 2024. Although its file size isn’t even close to taking it to the bottom of the list, 104 GB is still considerable.
20 Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Launch Edition
105 GB
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Released
- November 12, 2020
- Developer(s)
- Insomniac Games
- Platform(s)
- PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5
In Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Launch Edition, players will step into the shoes of Miles, Peter Parker's young protégé. Miles is tasked with protecting New York in Peter's absence, and throughout the story, players will see Miles' growth as a superhero in many aspects.
When it comes to PS5 game sizes, this title doesn't have enough to make it to the top of the list, especially when there are games over the 300 GB mark. That said, its whopping 105 GB still represents 15% of the console's total usable storage capacity (667.2 GB), meaning that players can only install another five games of a similar size without a memory expansion solution, which is very inconvenient.
