Summary

  • Son and Bone offers a unique twist on dinosaur games, with its action-adventure FPS gameplay set in a prehistoric world.
  • The game features fast-paced, gory combat and a wide variety of weapons.

PlayStation announced a new PlayStation 5 exclusive, Son and Bone, an action-packed FPS game that sees an American sheriff transported to another world where he must battle dinosaurs to survive. The game will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and is without an exact release date, but will release sometime in 2024.

There's always a demand for dinosaur games. While there are already popular dinosaur titles, there aren't many that take the approach seen in Son and Bone's trailer. Most popular dinosaur-themed titles are either survival games or simulation games, but surprisingly, there aren't a whole lot of action-adventure FPS games set in a prehistoric world. TeamKill Media, the group behind Son and Bone, seems to be filling that gap.

7 Games That Let You Play As A Dinosaur

Fans who love controlling their favorite dinos from history may want to check out the following games.

PlayStation shared Son and Bone's gameplay trailer, which shows two minutes of mayhem as the player blasts their way through a variety of dinosaurs. The game's description reads, "When a local farm in Patchwork, MT is attacked by a group of notorious bandits, Sheriff Sam Judge sets out to bring them to justice by any means necessary and save the hostage they have taken. But on his journey... Sam finds himself transported to another world overrun with prehistoric creatures, dinosaurs and now must fight for his life to make it back to earth." In addition to accurate-looking dinosaurs, the PS5 exclusive's trailer also reveals some sort of humanoid creature that the player must battle against, so the game isn't taking realism too seriously. The trailer shows that players will use a wide variety of weapons to take part in fast-paced, gory combat.

TeamKill Media's last game was 2023's Quantum Error, a cosmic horror game that was not well received with a score of 40 on MetaCritic. The American studio is probably hoping to rebound with Son and Bone, and to be fair, the trailer does look promising.

TeamKill Media's Quantum Error was originally meant to be a PlayStation exclusive as well, before its release was adjusted to include Xbox and PC. This time around, it appears that Son and Bone will remain a PS5 exclusive.

Son and Bone is a drastic departure from other popular dinosaur games like Ark: Survival Evolved and Path of Titans. The latter of which is an MMO where players control a dinosaur and must outlast competing players as their creature grows from hatchling to adulthood. Fans of the prehistoric era who enjoy more fast-paced games might find their dinosaur sweet spot with Son and Bone.
