Summary
- Xbox first-party games reigned supreme among PS5 game downloads in April 2025.
- Recent releases like Forza Horizon 5 and The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered ranked in the top three bestselling PS5 games alongside Minecraft.
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 were also very popular among PS5 users last month.
Sony has revealed the most popular games downloaded by PlayStation 5 users in April 2025, and much of the list comprises titles published by the gaming giant's biggest competitor: Xbox. In April, three Xbox first-party games made their way to PS5, and all of them have ranked in the top 20 downloads for the month, in addition to other Microsoft-owned titles.
Each month, Sony shares download charts for the PlayStation Store, providing insight into what PlayStation gamers are playing the most across major markets like the US, Canada, and Europe. Ever since Microsoft's multiplatform push earlier in 2024, the PlayStation download charts have featured a greater volume of Xbox games. Case in point, Sea of Thieves was the most downloaded PS5 game in May 2024, and as more Microsoft games show up on PlayStation consoles, Xbox's software dominance over its greatest rival grows.
Best Xbox Game Studio Titles On PlayStation, Ranked
Xbox may have some incredible exclusives under its belt, but it's been kind enough to let PlayStation users join in on the fun, too.
Xbox games topped the PlayStation Store's pre-order rankings just last month, and now, many of them have reigned supreme in the April 2025 download charts as well. Over on the PlayStation Blog, newly-published data reveals that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered secured the top spot for paid PS5 downloads in the US and Canada - a rather impressive feat considering it launched just over a week before the end of April. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered even managed to edge out long-running chart mainstay Minecraft, which occupied second place and is yet another Xbox-owned game.
Forza Horizon 5, Oblivion Remastered, and Minecraft Were the Bestselling PS5 Games in April 2025
It doesn't end there, though, as Playground Games' critically-acclaimed open-world racer Forza Horizon 5 turned out a huge success on PS5 too, claiming third place on the April 2025 download charts. Across the Atlantic, the European PS5 download charts told a slightly different story, with Forza Horizon 5 taking the number one spot, while Oblivion Remastered followed close behind in second and Minecraft came in third. Forza Horizon 5's sales pace on PS5 is perhaps even more impressive than that of Oblivion Remastered, since the racing game launched on April 29 - just one day before month's end.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Also Charted Well Among PS5's Top Downloads
Aside from these three games, a few more Xbox-owned titles were also present among the most popular PS5 downloads for April 2025. MachineGames' Indiana Jones and the Great Circle performed well on PS5 following its April 17 launch, taking 11th and 8th positions in the US/Canada and Europe charts respectively, while Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 came in at 7th and 10th. In the free-to-play charts, Call of Duty: Warzone claimed second place in the US, Canada, and Europe, just after Fortnite.
Seeing Xbox first-party games dominate the upper echelons of the most popular PS5 games is nothing short of surreal, and Microsoft is no doubt very happy with its multiplatform venture bearing fruit. Looking ahead, 2025 will see lots more Xbox games launch on PS5, such as Doom: The Dark Ages on May 15, Gears of War: Reloaded on August 26, and The Outer Worlds 2 later this year. It's worth noting that these are just the confirmed ones, with rumors alleging that Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, and Starfield are also PS5-bound in 2025.
