A new Recently Played widget on the PS5 Welcome Hub is slowly being rolled out, with some users taking to social media to share images of the new feature. While the PS5 home screen hasn't seen any major design changes since the console was released in 2020, players are happy to see some helpful additions being made.

In a March 2025 report, it was confirmed that the PlayStation 5 has surpassed its predecessor in terms of sales pacing, with Sony's flagship console recently surpassing 75 million units sold. In November 2024, the company released the PS5 Pro, which includes a 45% faster GPU, AI-driven upscaling technology, and advanced ray tracing capabilities. Many new releases are being enhanced for the console, while over 8,500 PS4 titles have also been retroactively improved via PS5 Pro Game Boost. While Sony continues to find new ways to improve its hardware, many fans have long been frustrated with the PS5's Welcome Hub, which historically hasn't offered a ton of customization options. Now, information about a new widget is beginning to appear online.

Sony Could be Working on a Biometric PS5 Controller

A recent Sony patent gives audiences an early look at an in-development controller design that would utilize player biometrics.

In a new post on the PlayStation subreddit, user NFTLrage shared an image of their PS5 Welcome Hub, highlighting a new Recently Played widget. The feature, which seems to be rolling out to those in PlayStation's beta program first, shares some interesting stats about a user's most recent booted game, including time played, how many screenshots have been taken, how many times it's been played in the past, Trophy progression, and more. It also shows how many people on a person's friends list have also played. It's unclear when the new widget will be rolled out to everyone, or if it will be changed in any way.

New Recently Played Widget Rolling Out on PS5

In September 2024, Sony rolled out PlayStation Welcome, a feature allowing players to customize their home screen. Users can select from a number of premade backgrounds, and can also turn certain widgets on or off according to their preference. It's also possible to use a screenshot as a background, or to insert a USB and import one. While the feature hasn't been as well-received as the PS4's theme system, it's a positive step forward for those wanting to add some extra flair to their PS5's hub.

A slew of both major AAA titles and highly-anticipated indie games will come to PS5 in 2025, with May alone including Doom: The Dark Ages, Monster Train 2, and Elden Ring Nightreign. Hideo Kojima's next game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, will hit shelves in June, while Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Borderlands 4 will be out later this year.
