A leaker has claimed that Sony will start manufacturing the PlayStation 6 early in 2027. This new leak points to a 2027 release, contradicting some previous theories that the PlayStation 6 would be out in 2028.
The PlayStation 5 was released in 2020, followed by the PS5 Pro in 2024, which offered the same library of games but enhanced specs. So far, the PS5 has sold over 80 million units and is expected to eventually overcome the PS3’s 87.4 million in sales. Due to its success and Sony’s long history as a console manufacturer, many fans are already eagerly awaiting the PS6’s launch.

Sony May Be Planning to Start Manufacturing the PS6 Early in 2027
Hardware leaker Moore’s Law Is Dead (MLID) has claimed to have access to documents that confirm that Sony will start manufacturing the PS6 early in 2027, with the launch planned for later in the same year. While MLID did not show these documents, he has been a credible leaker in the past, sharing correct information regarding PlayStation’s hardware, such as the PS5 Pro. In the same video, MLID also touched on the console’s possible price, indicating that a possible smaller size and decreasing cooling requirements may help the PS6 to avoid costing much more than the PS5. While it's impossible to tell if MLID’s leak is correct, at least it's consistent with AMD insider KeplerL2’s claims that Sony has been planning to release the PlayStation 6 in 2027.
In any case, these are exciting rumors, as recent theories indicate that the PS6 will only be released in 2028. On October 9, Sony’s lead console architect Mark Cerny teased the PS6 release window when speaking about the company’s upcoming hardware. At the time, his vague remarks that the console would arrive “in a few years” made fans speculate that gamers would not see the new console arriving before 2028. Considering that Sony will likely want to avoid the same supply issues that happened when the PS5 was launched during the pandemic, manufacturing consoles early in 2027 to release them before the end of the year makes sense.
If the leak is correct, the PS6 may not be the only exciting hardware fans will gain access to in 2027. Multiple rumors have also pointed to the existence of an upcoming PlayStation handheld. Some of these rumors indicate that the PlayStation handheld will be launched around the same time as the PS6, which would likely make 2027 a huge year for PlayStation fans.
