PUBG: Battlegrounds developer Krafton has revealed the battle royale’s 2025 content roadmap that promises “major world updates.” Since PUBG: Battlegrounds is currently celebrating its eighth anniversary, the team wanted to share their gratitude with the players and outline what’s in store for future gameplay enhancing several aspects.

PUBG: Battlegrounds was first released in 2017, inspired by Kinji Fukasaku’s 2000 Battle Royale movie and based on Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene’s mods created for separate games. The battle royale's developer has already bagged an impressive accolade this year, as Krafton recently reported an all-time high record after 2024’s earnings, noting a 42% increase in sales and a 52% increase in operating profits, which were largely attributed to the PUBG IP.

Shared within a substantial YouTube video and blog post, Krafton noted PUBG: Battlegrounds would focus on three key areas in 2025: developing exciting content, enhancing its live-service features, and fortifying long-term sustainability. The end of the year will welcome major world updates by transforming old maps and introducing the Destructible Terrain feature to Taego, Miramar, and Erangel. This year will also welcome the Contender character system, designed to enhance a player’s individuality similar to how weapon and vehicle skins elevated the customizable experience, and PUBG: Battlegrounds’ 8th-anniversary plans will also have new skins up for grabs. Furthermore, the game will introduce the roguelike mode Project Cyclops, and SLB: Miramar will be based on a specific map.

PUBG: Battlegrounds Outlines 2025 Content Roadmap

The studio will focus on developing expandable content, actions, interactions, battle royale combat, and interactive elements this year, and Krafton has already made a great start by announcing the series’ first tactical shooter spin-off PUBG: BLINDSPOT. Players will have new collaborations to look forward to, as Krafton confirmed two more crossovers with “top-tier automotive brands." The drive to strengthen the game's anti-cheat system will also take priority this year, by advancing machine learning-based detection technology, enhancing player account security, and taking preventative measures to ensure fair competition continues.

At the start of the year, and building upon the developer’s relentless success with PUBG, Krafton outlined its plans to expand first-party production and secure new franchise IPs. The studio noted the intent to dial up support for its 14 creative studios to maximize the output of new releases, and the developer also wants to utilize "Second Party Publishing and Licensing" tactics to grow existing user bases for both new and current IPs, including Subnautica 2.
