With Operation Twin Shells, Rainbow Six Siege introduces a brand-new operator, Skopós. She is an operator unlike any other seen in Rainbow Six Siege's nine-year history. While Skopós is the primary highlight of Operation Twin Shell, the season also adds several interesting features and changes that you must know before jumping into your next ranked game.
From operator balancing changes to the new Siege Cup tournament, there's a lot going on in Operation Twin Shells, and if you're interested in learning everything that's new this season, the following guide should provide a comprehensive understanding of everything new this season brings to the table.
Rainbow Six Siege: 20 Great Operator Combos
Rainbow Six Siege has no shortage of options when it comes to operators to choose from. These are the best combos available.
Operator Skopós
Skopós is a fresh addition to the defender lineup, bringing a unique playstyle, setting her apart from the rest of the operators in Rainbow Six Siege. Skopós' backstory states that she survived a military accident, but had to undergo nine surgeries and rehabilitation. She now relies on her wheelchair for mobility, but her physical limitations haven't stopped her from joining the ranks of the top-performing soldiers in Rainbow Six Siege, and she's got a unique way of making her presence felt on the battlefield despite operating from a remote location.
Skopós relies on her twin V10 Pantheon Shells (combat robots) that serve her as both observation and assault tools. She can seamlessly switch between both her shells and use them individually. When controlling one of her shells, the other shell turns inactive and shields itself, but Skopós can use it as an observation tool. The ability to control two combat robots technically allows Skopós to teleport across the map if the shells are used strategically. Despite having two shells to work with, Skopós still only has one life. If an active shell is destroyed in combat, Skopós will be eliminated from the round.
Skopós is a two-speed and two-armor operator and brings a brand-new PCX-33 assault rifle, which can be outfitted with any 1x sight. Additionally, her utility allows you to choose between impact grenades and proximity alarms.
Rainbow Six Siege: 10 Best Elite Skins
There's a plethora of Elite skins in Rainbow Six Siege that players can acquire, but from a visual standpoint, these are among some of the very best.
Operator Balancing Changes
With every new season, Ubisoft introduces a slew of balancing changes, including operator buffs and nerf, and it's a similar case with Operation Twin Shells, which makes some interesting adjustments for the following three operators:
- Dokkaebi: Unlike in previous seasons, Dokkaebi will no longer spawn with all of her Logic Bomb charges, instead she'll begin with 0 Logic Bomb charges and gain them over time as the round progresses. She will still continue to have a maximum of two Logic Bomb charges, but players will be compelled to ensure her survival if they wish to use her utilit y.
- Nøkk: While Dokkaebi has undergone a nerf in Operation Twin Shell, Nøkk has received a decent buff to her Hel Presence Resistance gadget. Her gadget's energy efficiency has been tweaked, causing it to only deplete energy when she's in the sight of an active observation tool, or when she performs any other actions such as sprinting, vaulting, or throwing her drone.
- Solis: On the defender side, Solis' SPEC-IO Electro Scanner has undergone a rework that now has a new Overclock featur e. Unlike in prior seasons, Solis can no longer determine the identity of a gadget when pulling up her SPEC-IO scanner. Moreover, the area of detection has been constricted to a smaller HUD window. To identify the electronic type, Solis must now activate her Overclock ability at the cost of alerting her presence to nearby drones or attacker-controlled cameras. At the start of each round, Solis will receive one SPEC-IO charge, and can acquire a maximum of three charges. Each SPEC-IO scanner charge requires 25 seconds to generate, and her Overclock ability lasts for 10 seconds once activated.
Rainbow Six Siege: The 25 Most Powerful Weapons, Ranked
Until you've played for a while, it's hard to tell which weapons are the best in Rainbow Six Siege. These are the most powerful ones in the game.
Utility Balancing Changes
Along with the operator balancing changes, the new season also brings a few utility tweaks for both attackers and defenders. These utilities include the Claymore, Proximity Alarm, and Drones, but the Claymore tweak specifically targets Oryx's ability to bypass the fuse timer. Here's how all three utilities have been tweaked in the new season of Siege:
- Claymore: Unlike in previous seasons, claymores will no longer have a fuse timer in Operation Twin Shells and will explode instantly when an opponent walks into it. This tweak prevents Oryx from sprinting past the claymore's blast radius.
- Proximity Alarm: These detection devices will no longer earn you points when triggered by an attacker. So, it's just a scoring change with no major gameplay implications.
- Drones: All standard and Operator-specific drones will now have a speed boost feature, allowing them to cover longer distances quickly. The speed boost lasts for a short duration and can be reused after a cooldown period.
Siege Cup
With Operation Twin Shells, Rainbow Six Siege introduces the Siege Cup beta, which allows PC players to sign up for branching tournaments and potentially win exclusive in-game rewards. The Siege Cup is currently limited to the PC platform, with expansion to consoles planned in the future.
The Siege Cup will run for the first 2 weeks of every season, and enrolling your squad requires signing up for the cup and waiting for an invitation from Ubisoft.
New In-Game Rewards
Starting with Operation Twin Shells, Rainbow Six Siege will now have a new reward pack called Competitive Packs that contain season-exclusive rewards. These packs can be acquired by earning Competitive Coins, which also is a new currency type introduced this season. You can earn Competitive Coins by playing the Siege Cup or Ranked playlists.

1v1 Custom Game Preset
The new season now gives you the ability to create custom 1v1 matches against your friends and on your preferred map. The Duel presets allow you to choose between short and long matches, with the former lasting 6 rounds and the latter 14 rounds. Players will swap roles at the end of each round.
Versus AI 2.0
Rainbow Six Siege introduced Versus AI 1.0 in Operation Deep Freeze, allowing you to take on smart AI defenders while playing as an attacking yourself. With Versus AI 2.0, you can now experience a full Siege match against an AI team that plays both attacking and defending roles and with the ability to swap roles after two rounds. You now also get to choose between the Beginner and Advanced difficulties depending on your experience with the game.
These AI opponents have been trained through a complex machine-learning algorithm that allows them to learn from the vast library of data collected from player matches. You can expect these AI opponents to mirror strategies that are commonly experienced in PvP matches.
Quality Of Life Improvements/Changes
Finally, Operation Twin Shell also brings a few qualities of life changes to Rainbow Six Siege, aiming to improve your gameplay experience :
- Disable Motion Blur: You can now disable motion blur under the options, and this setting applies specifically to the blur effect experienced when your character gets shot. Disabling motion blur removes this effect, allowing you to clearly see where you're being shot at from.
- Shooting Range During Matchmaking: Now you can jump into the shooting range while waiting for a ranked game at 3 AM in the morning. Jokes aside, the shooting range will now be fully accessible during matchmaking, allowing you to brush up on your aiming skills.
- Vulkan API Removed: PC players will no longer have the option to launch Rainbow Six Siege with the Vulkan API, but it has been replaced with the DirectX12 API. According to Ubisoft, the decision to remove the Vulkan API stemmed from concerns about maintaining the game's overall health. However, it's unclear what Ubisoft meant by that statement. Fortunately, players who dislike DX12 API still have the option to run the game on DX11.
