The PlayStation 2 remains the highest-selling video game console of all time, more than two decades after it was released in 2000. Plenty of elements contributed to the system's success, but the PS2's strongest selling point will always be its library. Frankly, the console might have the best selection of games ever, some of which are bona fide classics that are relatively accessible nowadays. However, certain PS2 games are so expensive that they might make you balk at their price tags.

1

The most valuable PlayStation 2 games of all time tend to be those that fell into obscurity or didn't release in multiple markets. However, there are a few expensive PS2 games based on well-recognized IPs that, for whatever reason, have become rare collector's pieces over time.

All values for Loose, Complete In Box, and New prices were taken from PriceCharting.com on December 23, 2025.

We are also prioritizing single games, although two compilations are included as they are pretty neat.

Updated on December 25, 2025, by Mark Samut: The prices and listings have been updated to match the current information, as available on PriceCharting. For the most part, the rarest PS2 games are set in stone, with a few outliers. For example, we have added two more games: Silent Hill 3 and Robot Alchemic Drive.

17 Silent Hill 3

Complete In Box Price: $245.12

Except for some Greek-themed adventures, Silent Hill 3 is the most mainstream PS2 game featured in this article, as Konami's release is rightfully hailed as one of the greatest horror games on the console. The genre, in general, has a habit of producing expensive PS2 games, but most of them are lesser-known cult classics and not huge entries in established franchises. Although perhaps not reaching the same heights as its acclaimed predecessor, Silent Hill 3 is nevertheless a masterclass in suspense, atmosphere, and tension. Heather Mason is also one of the most famous female leads in all gaming, not just horror.

So, why is this game so expensive nowadays? Well, copies are just not easy to come across nowadays, and even the PC version is considered abandonware. Silent Hill 3 was part of the disappointing Silent Hill HD Collection, but the only way to play the original version is to pick up a copy of the PS2 game.

16 Robot Alchemic Drive

Complete In Box Price: $246.25

Robot Alchemic Drive meganite

A somewhat forgotten PS2 game, and one of Enix's last solo publications before its merger with Square, Robot Alchemic Drive allows players to live their mecha dreams as they become pilots charged with protecting Earth from an alien invasion. While offering a 2v2 mode, the game has a pretty lengthy campaign that features multiple playable characters and mecha; however, the twist is that the pilots control their robot from the ground via a remote, a perspective that helps sell the fights as larger-than-life. While not game-changing or anything, Robot Alchemic Drive is a great love letter to old-school big robot anime, manga, and movies.

The Japanese version, Gigantic Drive, tends to go for about 1/5th the price of the Western release, the latter of which is quite rare nowadays. If you manage to find Robot Alchemic Drive for cheap somewhere, I recommend picking it up, even if you aren't that into giant robots.

Complete in Box

$281.25

$1105

Of all the most expensive PS2 games, and of all the pop culture IPs represented on the PlayStation 2, none is arguably more recognizable than Futurama, Matt Groening's adult-oriented classic cartoon. The game adaptation, simply called Futurama as well, was released on the PS2 in 2003 to mixed (but mostly negative) reviews.

The game wasn't particularly awful or anything; it just wasn't anything special, and a lot of the comedy value was lost in the series being adapted to fit this new medium. As a result, none other than Futurama is the ninth most expensive PS2 game currently available.

22 Rarest PS4 Games (& How Much They're Worth)

From niche indie titles, to limited collector's editions, some rare PS4 games can go for thousands of dollars.

In Japan, this game had the subtitle "Absolute Encirclement," where it was also a more popular series. However, a North American version of this niche series' conclusion is much harder to come by, which is why .hack/QUARANTINE is one of the rarest and most expensive PS2 games.

A GTA clone that copied the formula surprisingly well, Scarface: The World Is Yours is one of the better open-world PS2 games, and it is certainly worth a playthrough if you are fond of Vice City and San Andreas.

If you just want to buy a copy for the PS2, the game will only set you back around $50, which is not that bad (and it is available on multiple platforms). However, the Press Kit version is way more expensive, as it comes in a really cool cigar box.

$628.87

Blood Will Tell is a game based on the Dororo manga series by legendary manga artist Osamu Tezuka. Players take the role of Hyakkimaru, whose body was stolen by 48 fiends and replaced with prosthetic parts. It's the player's goal to recover their body by defeating all 48 of these fiends.

Released in 2004, Blood Will Tell is one of the most expensive PS2 games, thanks in large part to its cult appeal and the fact that it was pretty difficult to come by back in the day. Fans of Tezuka's work, and of the Dororo manga, will have a great time with this game that took so much inspiration from the series – if they can get over that $200-600 price tag.

Worth noting that the PAL version is considerably cheaper, although it still requires more than $150.

11 God of War II – Retailer/Press Kit

Complete In Box Price: $400

$256.78

Complete in Box

$700

Far from a niche series, the God of War franchise has existed far longer than Kratos' recent Nordic adventures. Santa Monica debuted the series on the PS2, delivering two of the most beloved and best games on the system. The original God of War was a landmark release, but the sequel fine-tuned and improved pretty much everything.

If you want to just own God of War 2, the PS2 classic version will not set you back all that much. However, there was a special Retailer/Press Kit version that had a special cover, unique inside cover art, and a special slot that held the game disc itself.

This version of the game is incredibly rare and, naturally, incredibly expensive. The special artwork is particularly nice on both the outer and inside covers, and it makes for a great centerpiece to a God of War franchise collection.

Silent Hill is one of the most famous horror franchises of all time, one that has recently gone through a resurgence thanks to the Silent Hill 2 remake and Silent Hill f. Back in the PS2 days, the series was booming, and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories offered a new take on old events.

The only problem was that the PS2 version was ported from the original Wii version, and most reviews gave it worse marks for bad optimization and other issues the port had. The Wii version of this game isn't too pricey, but the PS2 version will set fans back a few hundred dollars.

Super Fighter Special Edition is something of an anomaly on this list of the rarest PS2 games of all time. An extremely limited release that is difficult to find details about online, this collection appears to essentially be a combined, branded release including several notable fighting games. Specifically, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, and Street Fighter Anniversary are included.

This set first appeared on PriceCharting in 2024 via an eBay listing, and though there are some videos online of the box set being unopened and revealing the contained games, there is not much information about the set's origins. As always, check listings thoroughly, contact sellers, and generally be wary if you are interested in purchasing something this unique and one of a kind.

As there seems to be no other copies of this floating around, Super Fighter Special Edition is arguably the rarest PS2 game ever. Still, we are going by its most recent (and seemingly only) sale.

Rockstar was once known for a lot more than just Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2. More than a decade ago, the studio put out new IPs and tried out new ideas more often than it does now. Around the time of Grand Theft Auto 4's release came Bully, one of the most controversial games of all time in several countries.

The rarest Nintendo 64 games can set collectors back thousands of dollars, particularly those on the lookout for new and sealed copies.

The game was very popular, and eventually, Rockstar released a Collector's Edition, complete with an embossed cover that looked like a school locker with a volleyball and comic set. This collector's edition is one of the most expensive PS2 games ever, though the original title in its original case is not quite as pricey.
