Starting Tuesday, September 17, the PlayStation 5 will become the ultimate Ratchet & Clank machine. Ratchet & Clank has been one of PlayStation's most successful 3D platformer franchises ever since the original released for the PS2 more than two decades ago. Developer Insomniac Games has continued to release new main series Ratchet & Clank games and spin-offs, keeping the franchise fresh in the public's mind even in 2024.
Unfortunately, a lot of classic video games get lost to time. They stay trapped on outdated hardware, prices for secondhand copies skyrocket, and those interested in playing them have to shell out a ton of cash to do so. Luckily, the Ratchet & Clank series is an exception. Nearly the entire franchise is already playable on PS5 in some form, and soon, so will be one of the few games that has been missing from the equation.
Insomniac Should Make Another Ratchet and Clank Game Soon
Insomniac Games has found great success with Marvel games, but should remember to show love to their original Ratchet and Clank series.
Secret Agent Clank is being re-released on September 17, with the game set to be a part of PS Plus Premium. When this happens, every Ratchet & Clank game will be playable on the PS5, minus two. And not only that, but all of them are playable with a PS Plus Premium subscription, making it even more convenient for nostalgic fans to play through the entire series.

Many of these classic Ratchet & Clank games on PS5 are playable through a PS Plus Premium subscription and cloud streaming. This is because there is no way to download PS3 games and play them natively on a PS5, but there is still some hope that Sony is still looking into proper PS3 backward compatibility. Regardless, the PS5's cloud streaming works pretty well, and so those with solid Internet connections should be able to play through all these games and have a great time doing so.

Once Secret Agent Clank is added to PS Plus Premium on September 17, only two Ratchet & Clank games will be missing from the console: Going Mobile and Before the Nexus, though it's unlikely that they will ever come to the PS5. Ratchet & Clank: Going Mobile is, as its name suggests, a mobile spin-off. It's a 2D side-scroller that was released in 2005 and, as far as mobile phone games of the time go, received mostly positive reviews. It's still playable nowadays, but gamers have to jump through some hoops to make it happen. Ratchet & Clank: Before the Nexus is also a mobile game, but it's an endless runner with connectivity to Into the Nexus.
Sony's PlayStation 5 is part of the ninth console generation and debuted with a launch lineup that included Demon's Souls and Astro's Playroom. The console comes with a Blu-ray disc, although a digital-only edition is also available for a cheaper price.
