In the expansion of RE4 Remake, players can expect to face four bosses: The Black Robe, El Gigante, Test Subject, and Saddler. Of these, The Black Robe also appears in an alternative form known as Pesanta or U-3, providing an additional boss encounter to the roster.

Here’s the list of boss fights in order:

  • The Black Robe (first encounter)
  • The Black Robe (second encounter)
  • El Gigante
  • Pesanta (U-3)
  • Test Subject
  • Saddler

The Black Robe

Verdugo Resident Evil 4 Remake Separate Ways

The Black Robe is the first boss fight in Separate Ways that players encounter in three separate locations: Church, Village, and Island.

  • First Encounter (Church): Aim for The Black Robe's head while evading his clones. When he takes cover behind his shadows, shoot the one with glowing red eyes.
  • Second Encounter (Village): In the Village Square, utilize Flash Grenades to eliminate The Black Robe's shadows. Similarly to the previous fight, focus on shooting the creature with glowing eyes to bring the battle to a close.

El Gigante

El Gigante is a giant creature that attacks players in Chapter 3. To defeat him, players must grapple to the rooftops and keep shooting the parasite on his back. Once the giant is stunned, they must press RT (R2 on PlayStation) to perform a melee attack on his Las Plaga. Repeating this process two to three times will eradicate the monster for good.

Pesanta

Pesanta (U-3) is the ultimate form of The Black Robe, a test subject that looks like a hybrid human and scorpion. In Chapter 5 of the DLC, players must face off against this formidable creature in the tunnels of Gregorio’s Waterway.

  • Basic Form: Pesanta starts attacking players with three moves: Lunge, strike, and projectile. Dodge the first two by pressing the B (Circle) and LB (L1) buttons timely, and steer away from his poisonous larva. While circling the area, keep shooting his head until he drops dead.
  • Tail Form: Keep circling the area until the Tail sticks out from the ground. Shoot the glowing spot under its belly and stab this area once the creature is stunned. Flash Grenades can be used to kill the Novistadors that spawn.

Test Subject

The Test Subject is an unknown, lizard-looking creature that players come across in Chapter 6 while traversing the Comms Facility.

Players must first run away from him and enter the sewage channel. However, as players make their way out of the Facility, they will have an opportunity to defeat the Test Subject in the laser room through a Quick Time Event (QTE).

The QTE prompt sequence is B, B, B, and RB. (On PlayStation, Circle, Circle, Circle, R1.)

Saddler

Saddler is the final boss of the Separate Ways DLC in Chapter 7. To beat him, players will need to target the Las Plaga eye in his mouth.

Saddler will attack players with six moves: Lunge, strike, grab, ground attack, poisonous vomit, and tornado strike. The first five can be dodged and parried (B/LB or Circle/L1). However, to evade the last move, tornado lunge, players must press the grapple button before Saddler reaches them.

Resident Evil 4 Remake: Separate Ways is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
