VOID Interactive has revealed that over three million console gamers have purchased and played Ready or Not since it came to Xbox and PlayStation this past July. After a two-year stint as a Steam early access title, Ready or Not initially released on PC near the very end of 2023, before arriving on consoles this Summer.
Ready or Not is a tactical first-person shooter that stands out from many other online FPS games with its emphasis on using non-lethal equipment to take down and apprehend targets. The game can be played either solo or in five-player co-op, but its single-player Commander mode is perhaps the game's most interesting asset. This mode sees players managing their own SWAT team, monitoring the mental states of their officers, and sending them to therapy when needed to improve their stress levels and keep them from resigning. It's an interesting and refreshing take on a genre that's filled with many other titles that come and go without making any sort of lasting mark.
Ready or Not's Censorship Controversy Explained
The excitement around Ready or Not's console ports has been dampened due to some controversies regarding the recent censorship of the game.
Ready or Not Reaches 3 Million Console Players
It hasn't even been two full months since Ready or Not's console release and developer VOID Interactive is already celebrating a huge milestone. On Twitter, VOID shared a graphic announcing that Ready or Not has surpassed three million players on Xbox and PlayStation, which is impressive considering it's an online-focused FPS game that isn't free-to-play and instead has a base price of $50. In the same tweet, VOID also mentioned that, across consoles and PC, Ready or Not boasts over 13 million players, meaning the game has roughly ten million players on PC alone.
It's safe to say that Ready or Not has become a massive success, but in such a competitive landscape, one must wonder how much longer the game can maintain its momentum, especially with FPS juggernauts Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 right around the corner in October and November, respectively. While both Call of Duty and Battlefield have major name recognition, they both have key differences that might help Ready or Not continue its success. For one, Battlefield 6 offers a completely different style of multiplayer experience focused on large-scale battles and vehicle combat; it's very different from Ready or Not's more intimate tactical gameplay. As for Black Ops 7, its futuristic setting will likely give Ready or Not some room to breathe this Fall, as VOID's shooter features a modern setting.
As a game that had its start on PC, its initial console release was fully digital until VOID made physical copies of the game available to players in the UK, Europe, and Australia in August. VOID is preparing to ship Ready or Not's physical version to US gamers later this month, on September 26. For information about future updates or additions coming in Ready or Not's future, it would be wise for fans to keep an eye on VOID Interactive's Twitter account.
