Summary
- VOID Interactive's Ready or Not may be coming to consoles, as hinted by leaked footage.
- Fans have expressed both excitement and concern over the potential console release.
- Despite needing polishing, the game remains popular on PC with ongoing updates and bug fixes.
A rumor has fans of VOID Interactive’s Ready or Not hoping that the tactical first-person shooter may be coming to consoles. Set in a modern-day USA, Ready or Not gives gamers the chance to test their skills as a SWAT police officer dealing with an uptick in crime in the fictional city of Los Sueños. Co-op or solo, players of the indie game will defuse potentially volatile hostage situations, handle active bomb threats, and bust their way through to barricaded hostiles.
Currently sitting at a “Very Positive” review rating on Steam, Ready or Not found itself the subject of some controversy shortly after its early access launch in December 2021. After VOID Interactive confirmed that the game would include a mission involving a school shooter, Team 17 opted to end its agreement to publish Ready or Not. The developer seemed to take the change of plans in stride and ultimately handled publishing itself when the game officially launched two years later.
Ready or Not: 12 Tips and Tricks for Beginners
To succeed in Ready or Not, you need to be alert at all times.
Given the generally positive reception of Ready or Not, it would be ideal if console players also had the chance to check out the game, and that may in fact be in the works. In a now-deleted video, a Reddit user shared a teaser trailer discovered in Ready or Not’s game files, which contained a folder labeled “Console Teaser” that had been created in early 2024. The leaked footage was copyright claimed, but it seems to corroborate an earlier leak from April 2024. At that time, VOID Interactive experienced a data breach, which resulted in source code for a PS4 version of Ready or Not making the rounds online.
Ready or Not May or May Not Be Ready for Consoles
Many of the game’s fans are understandably excited at the prospect of Ready or Not making its debut on consoles. Some have expressed doubt, though, given the shooter’s tactical focus and somewhat intricate commands that may be hard to map on a controller. Others are hopeful that, if the game does indeed make the jump to console, the PC version will also end up with controller support. However, a few players have pointed out that, despite its engaging gameplay on PC, the game still needs quite a bit of polishing, with one Redditor mentioning the issues with teammate AI when playing Ready or Not solo.
As an indie game, Ready or Not does have its share of problems, and VOID Interactive still regularly releases updates and bug fixes. The latest, which came out in August, fixed a number of known issues and also optimized performance in a few areas. But gamers hoping for a console port should of course take any rumors with a grain of salt.
