Rockstar Games has quietly delisted the Red Dead Redemption 2 Official Companion App on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Because it was pulled discreetly, the Red Dead Redemption 2 app has been unavailable to download for longer than some might expect.
The Red Dead Redemption 2 Official Companion App was released simultaneously with the game in 2018. It was mostly used by players as a replacement for the map, as it synced with what was happening on the screen. Players could add and remove waypoints from their phone, removing the need to deal with pesky menus. They'd also have access to Arthur's journal, as well as the in-game store catalogs and shop inventories. While it may seem gimmicky, there's no doubt it helps to create an immersive Red Dead Redemption 2 experience.
Wild Red Dead Redemption 2 Mod Turns Jack Into a Throwable Weapon
Red Dead Redemption 2 players can now weaponize Jack Marston, thanks to a chaotic mod that turns him into a human projectile.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Companion App Quietly Delisted on August 19
However, two new pages appeared on the Rockstar Support website, confirming that the Red Dead Redemption 2 Official Companion App had been delisted from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. This actually happened as of August 19, 2025, although the game's age meant it was only noticed a while later. While Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold over 77 million copies, it's unclear how many users were still actively using the Official Companion App in 2025. However, the reason for its removal remains a mystery.
Anyone who has previously downloaded the Red Dead Redemption 2 Companion App can still access it from their account purchase history on either storefront. It's simply unavailable for new users to access going forward. Importantly, users who purchased the Red Dead Redemption 2 Complete Official Guide within the app can still access that, too.
It's difficult to believe that Red Dead Redemption 2 is already almost seven years old. Next year, the gap between RDR2 and a potential sequel will extend beyond the wait between the 2010 original and its successor. Rockstar has been busy with Grand Theft Auto 6 over the last few years, and while the financial success of the studio's Western series means that Red Dead Redemption 3 will almost certainly happen eventually, it could be a long wait before that comes to fruition.
