Red Dead Redemption 2 is filled with a huge number of unique items for Arthur Morgan to collect and craft. The rarest of these items and upgrades often feature multiple hard-to-find crafting materials, some of which are easily missed or lack any real guide leading to their acquisition. Read Dead 2' s various talismans serve as a perfect example of this, as it requires the ever-elusive Vintage Civil War Handcuffs.
The only mention of VIntage Civil War Handcuffs in Red Dead Redemption 2 is found in the crafting requirements for the Alligator Tooth Talisman, with very little context provided to explain to the player how it is acquired. This is likely on purpose, as Rockstar seems to enjoy the odd mystery here and there. Luckily, this guide will step in where the game is lacking, to provide players with everything they'll need to get the Vintage CIvil War Handcuffs.
Red Dead Redemption 2: Where to Find All Rock Carvings (Old Brass Compass)
Arthur Morgan must find 10 rock carvings in Red Dead Redemption 2's mysterious 'Geology for Beginners' side-quest.
How to Get Vintage Civil War Handcuffs in RDR2
Red Dead 2's Vintage Civil War Handcuffs are technically extremely easy to find and acquire, it really comes down to knowing where to look. The quick answer to this question is this: Vintage Civil War Handcuffs are the first reward for completing a full set of cigarette cards, and sending them in. That's it. However, it's setting up the correct situation, and having a place to send the cards that may trip up the player.
Before Arthur can send the cards anywhere, he'll have to begin the 'Smoking and Other Hobbies' Stranger Mission. Only then will he be able to start mailing card sets.
Where to Find 'Smoking and Other Hobbies in Red Dead 2
'Smoking and Other Hobbies' will only become available partially through Chapter 2, after Arthur completes Reverend Swanson's mission 'Who is Not Without Sin,' at Flatneck Station. Once that mission is complete, Arthur will have to wait a bit for the Stranger Mission to show up, though it will not appear on the map until Arthur approaches it in person. Flatneck Station is extremely close to Horseshoe Overlook, so finding it should not be difficult.
At the station, Arthur will meet with a man who seems to be obsessed with collecting cigarette cards - trading cards found in packs of premium cigarettes. Even this early in the game, it's highly unlikely that Arthur hasn't come across at least a couple. The general goal of the mission is to collect and send complete sets to this man. It is he that sends the Vintage Civil War Handcuffs as a reward for collecting and sending the first complete set.
How to Complete a Cigarette Card Set in RDR 2
While it is surely possible for Arthur to complete a set through organically finding packs and cards in the world, the length of time it would take is prohibitive. Therefore, it seems the best option, at least partially, is to purchase packs from the General Store. While this can get expensive, the time saved is worth every cent. There are some key tips to remember when trying to accomplish this task:
- The higher Arthur or John's honor, the bigger the discount they will receive from merchants. Being good can save a lot of money here.
- Prepare to spend somewhere between 200–500 dollars, depending on how many cards already owned, and RNG (bad RNG can result in even higher total costs).
- The Legendary Alligator required to complete the Alligator Tooth Talisman, which the handcuffs are also meant for, cannot be hunted until Chapter 6. There is no need to spend this amount of money early in the game.
Once a complete set is obtained, head to any post office and send it off. Approximately 24 hours later, the handcuffs will arrive in the mail.
