Summary
- Rumors suggest Red Dead Redemption 2 may get a PS5/Xbox Series X upgrade patch this year.
- Fans have been eager for improved graphics and performance for Red Dead Redemption 2 for years.
- The update is rumored to be coming alongside a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game.
It seems as though Red Dead Redemption 2 may finally be getting its PS5/Xbox Series X upgrade patch this year. Red Dead Redemption 2 was a massive success at the time of its release in 2018. The open world western game earned widespread critical acclaim and sold millions of copies, with many praising it as one of the absolute best video games ever made.
Even though Red Dead Redemption 2 was released seven years ago, there are rumors that Rockstar Games is not quite done with it yet. Apparently, Red Dead Redemption 2 could be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, though nothing official to that effect has been announced at the time of this writing. Rockstar brought the original Red Dead Redemption to the Switch 1, so it does seem natural to follow that up with a Red Dead Redemption 2 Switch port, but that remains to be seen. Besides Switch 2 owners, it seems Red Dead Redemption 2 fans on PS5 and Xbox Series X may also have reason to be excited.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Player Makes New Discovery After 7 Years
One Red Dead Redemption 2 player takes to social media to share with the community a new discovery they made after 7 years of playing the game.
According to Gamereactor, citing sources close to Rockstar Games, Red Dead Redemption 2 could be getting an upgrade patch for PS5 and Xbox Series X. While specifics are unavailable, the Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5 and Xbox Series X update would apparently bring "the graphics and performance" of the game to PS5/Xbox Series X standards. A Red Dead Redemption 2 upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X has been rumored for some time, but if the latest one is to be believed, it's possible that it could be dropping later this year.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Rumored for PS5 and Xbox Series X
Fans have been asking for a Red Dead Redemption 2 upgrade for years, as the game could really take advantage of the souped-up hardware. Notably, Red Dead Redemption 2 does not run at 60 FPS on consoles, so that would be the big benefit of a proper update for the newer systems.
If a Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5/Xbox Series X update does come this year, it could help fill the gap between now and the 2026 launch of Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar recently delayed GTA 6's release date to May 26, 2026, and so the company seemingly has no games releasing at all in 2025. A Switch 2 port alongside a next-gen upgrade for Red Dead Redemption 2 would do wonders, as would the rumored GTA 4 current-gen port. Of course, we don't know how much truth there is to any of these claims, so fans should take all of this information with a grain of salt.
