Red Dead Redemption 2 has hit a new record high for concurrent players on Steam. Red Dead Redemption 2 was first released for PlayStation and Xbox consoles in 2018 before making its way to PC a year later. Like most titles from Rockstar Games, Red Dead Redemption 2 has remained hugely popular in the years after its release.

Red Dead Redemption 2 reviews have made it one of the highest-rated video games of all time, with many praising the massive single-player campaign in particular. And while it may not be quite as popular as GTA Online, Red Dead Online certainly has its fans as well. It broke its record last week when it hit 86,717 concurrent players, and has now surpassed that number yet again with 92,508 concurrent players on February 1. RockstarIntel attributes this incredible success to the ongoing sale that has seen Red Dead Redemption 2 heavily discounted on Steam.

The recent Steam sale saw Red Dead Redemption 2's price drop to a mere $14.99, which is the cheapest it's ever been on the platform. Clearly, many Steam users jumped at the opportunity to snag such an expansive game for such a low price, as evidenced by Red Dead Redemption 2's new concurrent player count record. It's possible future sales will bring Red Dead Redemption 2's price down even lower and give the game a chance to top its concurrent player record, but that remains to be seen.

Currently, Rockstar Games is busy working on Grand Theft Auto 6, which is expected to hit store shelves this fall. While there are still events and things held for Red Dead Online, no substantial new content is planned for the mode, and so that's unlikely to help RDR2 break its concurrent player record in the future. No single-player DLC expansions are expected for Red Dead Redemption 2 either. With no major new content releases in the pipeline, it seems Steam sales will be the only way Red Dead Redemption 2 can hope to break its concurrent player record again. Regardless, the game will continue to be enjoyed by a huge number of players for years to come.
