Following months of inactivity and a fan protest in Red Dead Online, Rockstar Games has finally released a new update for its award-winning Red Dead Redemption 2. The bulk of the update focuses on new content for the Red Dead Online multiplayer mode, but it also includes a helpful new feature for Story Mode that should be a pretty decent quality of life improvement for those still playing through the story.
After downloading the latest update, Red Dead Redemption 2 players will find a weapon locker in their Story Mode game from Chapter 2 onward. The weapon locker has been in Red Dead Online for quite some time, so it's nice to see the helpful feature make its way to Story Mode. As its name implies, the weapon locker is a way for Red Dead Redemption 2 players to store weapons that they aren't using at the moment.
This update will no doubt be appreciated by Red Dead Redemption 2 fans who are still playing the single player story, but some may be anxious for more substantial story mode content. While there was some speculation that Rockstar could be preparing an Undead Nightmare-style expansion for Red Dead Redemption 2, nothing official has been announced to date.
It seems as though Rockstar is busy working on other projects, like the next-generation Grand Theft Auto 5 port and whatever its next big, original project is. That doesn't mean that more Red Dead Redemption 2 story content couldn't eventually come at some point down the line, but fans of the game shouldn't hold their breath. It's likely that the majority of new content will still be aimed at the Red Dead Online mode for the foreseeable future.
In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if Rockstar Games brings Red Dead Redemption 2 to PS5 and Xbox Series X, and if so, if that version of the game will have any new content. Grand Theft Auto 5 on PS5 and Xbox Series X won't have new content for the story mode, but it will reportedly feature a boost to the GTA Online player count, so who's to say a next-gen RDR2 couldn't have similar enhancements?
While fans wait for more information on potential future Red Dead Redemption 2 updates or news on Rockstar's next game, whatever it may be, they can see how the weapon locker enhances the game's single player experience in the meantime.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
