Location

Gaptooth Ridge, New Austin

Gang

Walton's Gang

Reward

None

Available After

Immediately

Help a Sheriff, kill the Walton Gang, and loot a safe from Armadillo’s bank, all by simply traveling to Solomon’s Folly. It’s just a short trek away from the train station, Benedict Point, and players will be rewarded with a daring but short adventure. Solomon’s Folly doesn’t have much to it, as it’s a desolate and destroyed farm that has nothing to show for it but gang members and guns, but deep in the basement, players will find some nice loot that makes for a nice stash for John Marston’s pot.

7 Nosalida

Reye’s Rebels Hold Strong, North of Escalera

Location

Punta Orgullo, Nuevo Paraiso

Gang

Reyes' Rebels

Reward

Henry Reapeter

Available After

Complete We Shall Be Together in Paradise, the 25th main mission.

If players venture into Mexico and feel like taking on some of Reye’s Rebels, then Nosalida is a small hideout for them. While Spanish for No Exit, John Marston will find that this humble hideout is definitely going to be no exit for the rebels that reside here, and not for Marston himself. Regardless of the moral implications of aiding the Mexican Army in snuffing out Reye’s Rebels, players can take on this small homestead, which is surrounded by a desert of dry land and rundown shacks, which doesn’t make for the best cover in a shootout, but a decent sniper will get the job done from far away.

6 Twin Rocks

Found North of Armadillo with Snipers Perched

Location

Cholla Springs, New Austin

Gang

Walton's Gang

Reward

Volcanic Pistol

Available After

Immediately

Twin Rocks is a relatively simple gang hideout that can be started as soon as John Marston rides out of the McFarlane’s Ranch section. What awaits players in Twin Rocks is the Walton Gang, a savage gang that shouldn’t be underestimated with their silly red scarves and top hats, as these criminals hold down Twin Rocks like it’s a personal haven. The twin rocks themselves have snipers perched up top, meaning players will want something with a bit more range for combat since these snipers can have deadly aim, and that’s without mentioning the gang members that wait both in and out of the Twin Rocks camp, ready for a brave gunslinger to dare tread here.

5 Pike’s Basin

The Largest Gang Hideout Moves Between Canyons

Location

Hennigan's Stead, New Austin

Gang

Bollard Twins Gang

Reward

Sawed-off Shotgun

Available After

Complete Justice in Pike's Basin, the 9th main mission.

Pike’s Basin is easily one of the biggest gang hideouts in Red Dead Redemption, and players can reach this spot from the western area of MacFarlane’s Ranch near Hennigan’s Stead. Pike’s Basin is a large canyon, writhing with enemies who use the high ground and low ground to their advantage. Pike’s Basin can be a tough gang hideout, since the Bollard Twins Gang hold up here, deep in the canyon’s depths. Cattle rustlers and killers galore, John Marston is going to need to bring rifles and revolvers to get through this army that awaits death by his hand, but the open ground and surprising amount of high ground will make for a challenging fight of varying heights.

4 Tesoro Azul

A Mexican Village Formed from Murderers

Location

Punta Orgullo, in Nuevo Paraiso

Gang

No Affiliation

Reward

Double-action Revolver

Available After

Complete The Demon Drink, the 27th main mission.

One of the two gang hideouts in Mexico, Tesoro Azul is the hardest of the duo thanks to its unaffiliated gang members, who consist of criminals who have come to this ghost town to call it their home. Tesoro Azul is filled with fiends that have turned this abandoned village into their personal territory, with tall buildings, churches, and camps to make for a small army of soldiers. John Marston can venture here to take on these Mexican criminals, but a dangerous shootout is assured with the abundance of obstacles as cover, walls to hide behind, and an expansive road path.

3 Fort Mercer

Located in Rio Bravo, Brimming with Death

Location

Rio Bravo, New Austin

Gang

Banditos

Reward

Semi-automatic Pistol

Available After

Complete We Shall Be Together in Paradise, the 25th main mission.

Fort Mercer is occupied by the dreaded Banditos once Bill Williamson abandons it during the single-player campaign. This well-guarded fort is near Rio Bravo, and if the cougars that roam outside don’t get John Marston, then the Banditos inside most certainly will. Fort Mercer is brimming with high ground cover for gang members to use as John Marston makes his stand against them, so players will only want to proceed inside if they have a personal vendetta that they are confident they can beat. With working girls dancing, lawmen swinging by the neck, and Banditos ready to unload their bullets, players are in for a tough time in Bill Williamson’s old hideout.

The Treasure Hunter Gang has taken refuge in Gaptooh Breach in search of long-hidden or long-lost treasure. What awaits John Marston at Gaptooth Breach is an expansive area, a mining colony that has since been abandoned and overrun by criminals. The Treasure Hunter Gang holds this place as their fort, and the large warehouses and small camps showcase how many enemies are actually here. Not only will players have to battle it out in the open, but they will also need to venture into the cold caverns of the mine itself, which is dangerous, dark, and with tight corners for enemies to easily ambush.

1 Tumbleweed

A Lowly Town for Thieves, Murderers, and Bandits

Location

Gaptooth Ridge, New Austin

Gang

No Affiliation

Reward

Winchester Repeater

Available After

Immediately

Tumbleweed has a great history behind it as a prosperous town in New Austin, but dust and outlaws are all it collects now in its dead years. Tumbleweed was abandoned after the railroad to Armadillo skipped this town, and now, it’s inhabited by all manners of scum and villainy. There is no single gang that takes control of Tumbleweed, as it’s just an assortment of crooks and criminals that John Marston can find here. The town itself is expansive, and players must push building to building against an army of fiends, with the main goal being the manor. While rumors of treasure and ghosts lurk in Tumbleweed’s manor, John Marston will find nothing but more death and maybe a gun to keep.
