The digital versions of both Red Dead Redemption games have risen in price on Xbox's store in the UK. Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption franchise has become almost as beloved as Grand Theft Auto. The series had its roots in the original Xbox and PlayStation 2 generation with Red Dead Revolver, but it really took off in 2010 with the release of Red Dead Redemption on Xbox 360 and PS3. Red Dead Redemption 2 followed up eight years later and has become one of the most critically acclaimed single-player games of all time.
As popular and beloved as Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption is, it's second only to Grand Theft Auto, a franchise that's made its way back to the top of gamers' minds in recent years as the sixth mainline entry approaches. Grand Theft Auto 6 is looking to be the biggest game release of all time, thanks to both just how long it's been since GTA 5 and how impressive the game's trailers and official screenshots look. The game is taking fans back to Vice City but in the modern day, and appears to have a Bonnie and Clyde-style dual protagonist relationship at the heart of its story. After initially setting a 2025 release window, Rockstar recently confirmed the blockbuster's delay to May of next year.

In a head-scratching move, it seems that Rockstar Games has increased the prices of both Red Dead Redemption games in the UK. Pure Xbox reports that Red Dead Redemption and its 2018 sequel have jumped up 5 pounds to 60 and 30 pounds, respectively. It's not just the UK that's been hit with these Red Dead price hikes on Xbox, as Chile, Brazil, and the Czech Republic have all been affected as well.

It's entirely unknown why Rockstar Games has decided to up the prices of these Red Dead games in these seemingly random countries, though the move is still open to speculation. Some believe Rockstar is doing this to earn more revenue from first-time Red Dead players who want to jump in ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6 next year. However, if this is indeed the case, it's strange to have left the prices of GTA 5 and the GTA Definitive Edition Trilogy untouched, especially when the latter includes Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. There will be many first-time GTA players once GTA 6 rolls around, and large swaths of them will undoubtedly want to check out the older GTA games. Therefore, it doesn't make much sense for Rockstar to have raised the prices of its other unrelated franchise.
With Rockstar having yet to officially comment on the matter, time will tell whether these Red Dead Redemption prices will drop back down to their original asks after a while. As for the old Grand Theft Auto games, those are more likely to see price jumps as GTA 6's release finally begins to draw nearer next year, but hopefully they'll stay put.
