If players want to become a Legend of the West in Red Dead Redemption, then they are going to need to complete all 10 Master Hunter challenges. These challenges involve creative and difficult ways to hunt animals, as well as knowing where to find said animals, and eventually, leading to a war against Legendary Animals.
Red Dead Redemption: Every Van der Linde Gang Member and What Happens to Them
Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn't work out well for the Van der Linde gang's plans, but what exactly happens to each of the gang's members?
Players are going to want to grab their rifle and head into the wild plains of New Austin, where it’s time to hunt for animals both common and mythical in order to complete every Master Hunter challenge in Red Dead Redemption.
10 Master Hunter Challenge #1 – Kill and Skin Five Coyotes
Where to Find Coyotes in Red Dead Redemption
Players can easily find coyotes in the south region between Pike’s Basin and MacFarlane’s Ranch in New Austin. Coyotes will often spawn at night, so simply wait around until the sun is down and listen for the chirping and whining of coyotes. These animals are not hard to kill, so use a repeater for a quick elimination. Players will want to be careful, as coyotes are not overly hostile, but are skittish and run away, so kill a few and approach their corpses to skin them.
9 Master Hunter Challenge #2 – Kill and Skin Five Deer
Where to Find Deer in Red Dead Redemption
Deer are extremely common to find in New Austin, so players will want to ride their horse in the south region of Armadillo near Cholla Springs, and between Pike’s Basin and MacFarlane’s Ranch during the day. It’s important to note that deer are separate from bucks, so players need to locate the animal that does not have antlers and has a slimmer build.
8 Master Hunter Challenge #3 – Kill 5 Wolves with Your Knife and Skin Them
Where to Find Wolves in Red Dead Redemption
In the northwest region of Cholla Springs and the south region of Armadillo, players will find a few prowling and hostile wolves. Players will want to head here during the day or the night and prepare themselves for a difficult fight ahead. Players must use the Knife to kill and skin the wolves, and since they are often hunting in packs, it might be a good idea to bring some Medicine during the fight to avoid being mauled to death by a pack of hungry wolves.
7 Master Hunter Challenge #4 – Skin 5 Boars and 3 Armadillos
Where to Find Boars and Armadillos in Red Dead Redemption
Boars are easily found in the north region of Hennigan’s Stead, and a rifle will easily get the job done. Since Boars are rarely found close together, saving and reloading after every skinning will make finding these animals quicker.
From Armadillo in New Austin, follow the train track to look for armadillos that will often scatter across the wild lands. A simple revolver shot will put these armadillos down, and players will just want to keep their eyes on the tall grass for these tiny critters.
Red Dead Redemption: 7 Characters Who Shaped John Marston's Life
John Marston may be the last one standing from the Van der Linde gang, but it's thanks to the important people in his life that this becomes the case.
6 Master Hunter Challenge #5 – Kill 2 Cougars with Your Knife and Skin Them
Where to Find Cougars in Red Dead Redemption
Players can find cougars in the north region of Hennigan’s Stead, as well as around Rio Bravo’s north region and Fort Mercer. Cougars are extremely deadly, so players will want to land a few shots with a revolver to weaken the cougar and make them bleed. Cougars will try to attack the player and kill them in 2 hits, so keep medicine on hand to heal as you slash them with a knife for the kill hit.
Completing Master Hunter #5 allows players to purchase the Buffalo Rifle from any Gunsmith.
5 Master Hunter Challenge #6 – Kill and Skin 5 Raccoons, 5 Skunks, and 5 Foxes
Where to Find Raccoons, Skunks, and Foxes in Red Dead Redemption
While 5 Raccoons, 5 Skunks, and 5 Foxes seem like an extensive task, all of these animals are rather common. Players can venture to Beecher’s Hope from dusk to dawn to ride around the perimeter in search of these animals, but there are alternative ways to find them. Players can find Skunks and Raccoons around Armadillo and Warthington Ranch during the night, and foxes can be found in the south region of Armadillo and Critchley’s Ranch around dusk.
4 Master Hunter Challenge #7 – Kill and Skin 5 Elk and 5 Bighorn Sheep
Where to Find Elk and Bighorn Sheep in Red Dead Redemption
Elk can be found rather deep into Tall Trees past Manzanita Post, and players will need to watch through the snowy region for these great beasts so that they can kill them with hard-hitting weapons like rifles. Players will also be able to find Bighorn Sheep in Tall Trees around the south region, but simply ride through the woodland areas to search for them.
Red Dead Redemption: All Outfits (& How to Unlock Them)
There are a total of eighteen outfits in Red Dead Redemption you can reveal and unlock, some of which will grant special bonus effects when worn.
3 Master Hunter Challenge #8 – Kill a Bear With Your Melee Knife and Skin It
Where to Find a Bear in Red Dead Redemption
Bears are found in the northern region of Tall Trees, but they are extremely beefy and hostile. It’s advised to take a few shots at the bear to weaken it, and bring plenty of medicine to heal in the fight. However, there’s a far easier way to obtain the bear and its belt. Later in the game, players can repeat the mission For Purely Scientific Purposes, as this mission has a bear that will not attack the player as it’s a part of the mission objectives, so players can simply chase it and stab it repeatedly with a knife.
2 Master Hunter Challenge #9 – Find Khan the Legendary Jaguar, and Skin It
Where to Find Khan the Legendary Jaguar in Red Dead Redemption
After completing all previous Master Hunter Challenges, players can enter Mexico, where in the south region of Chuparosa, they will find Ojo Del Diablo. Once entering this area, a prompt will appear stating that players are in the location of Khan, the legendary jaguar. Players will need to then watch their minimap for the red blip that indicates the location of Khan. Once Khan has been found, keep an appropriate distance and use long-range rifles and Dead Eye to kill Khan with ease.
1 Master Hunter Challenge #10 – Find Lobo the Legendary Wolf, Gordo the Legendary Boar, Brumas the Legendary Bear, and Skin Them
Where to Find All Legendary Animals in Red Dead Redemption
The final Master Hunter Challenge requires players to find and hunt 3 distinct Legendary Animals. The locations of each can be found below:
